Alloy spacer for steering column

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of lifting up the steering wheel by fitting a spacer (me knees hitting wheel), looks like you can use the same spacer that is fitted to the other end of the column (situated over the pedals)

Its an alloy block approx 10cm long with two holes drilled in it...anyway I am just getting a price from a local engineer to wip me up a few

Any idea if Westfield sell them separate or does anyone in here make them or does anyone have spare ones for sale? I am awaiting price from the engineering company

Give Westfield a call, I haven't found a part yet that they won't sell me sepparately  :D:D

Chances are it'll also be a lot cheeper from them than for you to get one made.

thanks all ... well done a trial fit with the steering column raised up with some long bolts and nuts used as spacer (no not those sort of nuts b4 anyone comments, that would be painful  :xmas: )..

I can actually get my knees past the steering wheel easily and drive with shoes on ...

Will contact westfield ref spacers tomorrow, I have also ordered a dremel tool £30 from amazon with 25 piece set which I thought was a good deal ... I have some  rather unsightly holes that need tidying up (no not those sorts of holes  :xmas: )

Trouble is because I have raised the wheel I can not see beyond 6000rpm on the rev counter and below 30 mph on the speedo ... mmm maybe new dash migth be on the cards for next year ...carbon fibre maybe ...b****y hell this westfield ownership is already proving expensive

I have just had a brainwave ...simply rotate the dials ... mmm will look at that tomorrow night

ignor them, fit a shift light instead

even better idea but would rarely look at dials when driving quick anyway ...

I looked at doing this to mine but the column goes throgh the bulkhead under the top crossmember!

will try and remember to get a piccy ... as mentioned the modification has lots of implications - the dashboard now needs replacing cause hole for column in wrong place plus you cannot now see the whole speedo and rev counter - the key is know a bit more difficult to get in (and is obscured but this is probably a good thing for anti theft) - and the plate that fits over the top of the pedals now needs to be lifted up

But overall it has been really worth it - nowt more embarrassing than have to put your shoe back on when you get out of the car  :p
