pistonbroke Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 With 25 off would be around £405 plus vat so £465 ish plus pp and fitting to old case plus any other bits needed Total ££££'s a lot Is this the lowest price?, as ive seen them on ebay for £425, i presume its the same one, Ebay Thats for the English Mk2 escort or "live" axle , which is a fair bit cheaper The one I used for a guide price only is for Ford Sierra IRS My price was just a rough guide worked from Quaife RRP so hopefully will come cheaper yet but its only a rough guide . In the end its all down to the skills of David who is kindly organising things and working hard to negotiate the best prices , not an easy task because we all want the things for free but Quaife want the max profit for there kit Quote
hobbsy Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Right it looks like 20% is all we're going to get. I spoke to Quaife at the Autosport show today and although they *may* have given greater discounts in the past 20% is as much as they'll give at the moment. They cited a few other big manuf's / resellers who spend £0.5m a year or more on their products and still only get 20% off. So I've worked out the figures using their latest retail prices (gone up a bit again - argh!): 7inch Sierra ATB for push in drive shafts (QDF15Z) Retail is £550+VAT = £632.50, 20% off = £506 7inch Sierra ATB if you need bolt on drive shafts (QDF15ZFL) Retail is £775+VAT = £891.25, 20% off = £713 English (Mk1/2 Escort) (16 or 22 teeth spline halfshafts - please specify but the price is the same) (QDF5Z/16 or 22) Retail is £450+VAT = £517.50, 20% off = £414 Atlas (Capri) (16 or 18 teeth spline halfshafts - please specify but the price is the same) (QDF6Z/16 or 18) Retail is £645+VAT = £741.75, 20% off = £593.40 Freelander (QDF31K) Retail is £585+VAT = £672.75, 20% off = £538.20 Someone mentioned UN1 and Cortina - both of these are showing as POA on the Quaife site so will have to ring them but I guess a similar ballpark to the ones listed above. Also with reference to prices available elsewhere it seems Rally Design have finally updated their prices so they are near enough the same as the latest Quaife retail (maybe £25 less but not >20% less). E.g. GeoffT quoted Escort as being £345+VAT (which it probably was a few months ago). Its now £425+VAT on Rally Design and £450+VAT is the retail price. So my "not worth bothering at 20% as you can get near that shopping around" comment is not really valid any more. Fitting wise Phil at Road and Race Transmissions (just down the road from Quaife so he can collect them) is willing to fit them for £90 (IIRC, need to check my notes but left them at work). If there are any parts that need replacing he can do this at the same time. And so at this stage I need to know who is really serious so I can ensure we have got enough people to make it feasible. I know the timing isn't very good with Christmas credit card bills landing etc. If you can email me at quaife@hobbsy.co.uk with which diff you want, your username on here, your real name and whether you'd want it fitting at Road and Race. I'd need people to be able to drop their diffs out reasonably quickly and I can arrange courier collection for ~£10 or drop it off yourself. I think 15 is still the magic number we need to hit. I'll post here once I've had enough responses. (FYI they come with a lifetime guarantee) Quote
kik1.6se Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I'm very, very tempted. Can't say for certain yet, but I have been wanting one, and this is a good opportunity to get one. WHen do we have to confirm? Also I'm not sure how many splines mine has (english axle), I take it I'll just have to pull the half shafts out and count? Thanks, effort to organise these things is apprecated. Kirk Quote
pistonbroke Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 wonder why the Sierra bolt on version is 220 quids odd more than the push on types Quote
StuartMackay Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Does anyone have a direct comparison and practical experience between the viscous sierra diff and an ATB in a westy?? What are the advantages of tha ATB in real terms of handling improvements?? Quote
langy Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Still interested, but timing could be an issue. If it's gonna happen in March then that would suit better. Quote
hobbsy Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 wonder why the Sierra bolt on version is 220 quids odd more than the push on types Its because it comes with flanges but I agree its a bit steep... Quote

Kirk Sooner the better but being realistic I know some people have got big credit card bills landing. To be honest I need to get to 15 to make it viable, if they don't come quickly then I'll have to wait a bit longer - or if everyone is truly skint it might not happen. I've already got my prop off at the moment so from my point of view I might as well sort the diff at around the same time. Guess counting the splines is the only sure way of knowing. Quote
hobbsy Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 Right, I've not had very many responses so far. It seems it is not a great time for this for a lot of people. Maybe I'm being too optimistic. Really need some more people to decide and respond - I've got to say the end of the month (31st Jan!) is probably the cut off. If there aren't enough then it will be mothballed and I will probably just buy my own diff at full price I just thought we could all benefit this way... Quote
hobbsy Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 UPDATE - NEW DEAL!!! Ok the "new deal" is as follows. Minimum order is only 3 units and you can pay directly via credit card once its been setup but it must all be pretty much at the same time as the order will be placed as one. We're currently only looking at the 7inch Sierra push in (QDF15Z) and English *22 teeth* ATB's. If you want something different (and think you know 2 other people who want one) let me know and I'll enquire. The "old" (and now looking quite unfeasible) deal included for comparison was with Quaife and required a minimum total order of 15 units. Although at the first show of hands I had >20 interested parties when it came to a firmer committment the numbers have dwindled somewhat. So the new MOQ of 3 deal is looking the favourite. 7inch Sierra ATB for push in drive shafts (QDF15Z) Retail is £550+VAT = £632.50, 20% off = £506 New deal is £490+VAT = £563.50 (~12% discount) English (Mk1/2 Escort) (22 teeth spline halfshafts ONLY - please check!) (QDF5Z/22) Retail is £450+VAT = £517.50, 20% off = £414 New deal is £356+VAT = £409.40 (= cheaper than previous deal) I know the discount on the Sierra unit doesn't look like much but its very difficult to get decent discounts on any Quaife stuff. I really would like to get this sorted in the next two weeks, so please email or U2U me if you're seriously interested. I definitely want a Sierra 7" ATB so as soon as we have 2 more people confirmed that GB can go ahead, if we get more then more discount is a possibility but we don't *need* 15 this time... Quote
