a4gom Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Off to a gig at wembley next year with the wife, concert is on saturday night but we will probably travel down friday by car. Anyone been lately, is it best (financially) to get a hotel close by or further away and rely on public transport / taxi back? Things to consider, assuming there are no deals on the train we will need car parking at hotel, we are coming from up north so top side / easy access would be good, we'll probably have a looksie round the shops, covent garden etc on saturday / sunday while we are there so will be travelling in to the city any way. Suggestions please, I'd prefer to do a decent chain rather than bed and breakfast then we don't get any surprises we can't get sorted. Is £100 per night for the two of us going to do it inc breakfast? Quote
Captain Colonial Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Premier Inn Wembley FROM £69 per night Fri & Sat and 5 min walk from Wembley, parking £5 per 24 hrs there or at tube station across the street It's a start, but I'm sure someone will come along in a minute and rubbish it! Quote
a4gom Posted November 28, 2008 Author Posted November 28, 2008 cheers, booked up I can get rooms at the travel lodge its a bit further away, pay now can't cancel £29 per night think i'm going to do that, you can afford a tube ticket or two for that. Just hope I don't need to cancel or its £58 down the swanny. Quote
a4gom Posted November 28, 2008 Author Posted November 28, 2008 Booked it now £58 for two nights, 500yards from tube station, 1.5 miles from stadium (easily staggerable ) Please don't add any better deals Quote
kitemark Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Prob the best option, When we have been in there with tours i have driven home to essex each night as the hotels that are in walking distance of the stadium / arena are really really really horrible! and the tour prefer to pay fuel for a few days driving as its cheaper than a hotel and i get my own bed! pistonbroke Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Why not leave the car home and fly in to docklands use PT and have a beer or three Quote
Blatman Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 JUst to be clear, you've booked the Travel Lodge on the North Circ rather then the Premier Inn? Be prepared... there isn't much around to do. The only restraunts nearby are going to be pretty average, although the big italian gaff on Hanger Lane Gyratory is OK. Wembley can be a pretty rum place, with one of the worst estates in London, probably the country just 1 mile away from your hotel, so keep your wits about you. On the plus side, the Ace Cafe is easily in walking distance and is probably where I'd go if I had an evening to kill. Doesn't matter what's on, it should be good, and the food is OK too... And IIRC, the tube will cost you 4 quid each, each way, if you don't have an Oyster Card, so getting a cab may well be easier, and *possibly* cheaper... Quote
a4gom Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 Your right blatters, lodge not inn, inn was full. As we are coming from up north and won't be leaving home till the bride finishes work I doubt we will be doing much Friday night anyway as we will probably not get there till gone 10pm. Saturday night will be at wembley stadium so not too worried. Where's the dodgy estate? I was thinking we would be ok walking back to the hotel from the stadium on Saturday night?? Wadayathink? Re the tube £4 from where to where? Quote
Blatman Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 The estate borders Harrow Road and the North Circ Junction, so it's basically right there on your walk back. Tube prices are fixed, and Stonebridge Park to Wembley Central is one stop on the Bakerloo Line (I think)... I never use public transport in London so I'll stand to be corrected on the finer points. By the time you've walked 10-15 mins to Stonebridge Park, waited for the tube, got off at Wemley Central in the High Street, and walked to the stadium, you could have probably walked it all the way anyway. Me, I'd get a mini cab... That said, you should be OK walking around, just stay awake... besides if it's p*****g down, you'll be pleased you booked a cab Quote
cast iron Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Ive usually stayed at the Wembley Crowne plaza Hilton, good deals on two nights. Excellent eat all you want brekkies and a good pool n gym. Theres a good indians on the tube side at the bottom of the bank. up the hil past the hotel there is an expensive restaraunt but it never looked that good. Get an all day tube romer ticket plenty of good food in the big city. Quote
Blatman Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Big city prices though... That said, head for www.toptable.co.uk for deals at all sorts of restraunts. I use it a lot and I haven't had a duff one yet Quote
