Liam Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 No.1 son is building a retro Orange P7 and is looking for any 1993 - 1995 bits and pieces, brakes, cranks etc. including Manitou 2 or 3 forks. Could I prevail on you to let me know before you chuck anything in the skip when you have that shed clearout you have been promising to do Quote
tex Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 when mountain bikes first started i used to go out testing new bikes with the orange creators - they were based over in the lakes and heard about our weekend gatherings on the north york moors - they came over with some really trick stuff at the time like front fork suspension! rear suspension - there was one very ropy lookin design lester brought over - we were very jealous.. i bought a ridgeback from the USofA in 1985 sent it to Jack Taylor who were based in Stockton where i live - he took the frame and was amazed - never seen anything like it - so he copied it! lol - sold loads.. i had the frame modded with rear drum brakes taken from a tandem - carrying straps, re-routed cabling for the wet mud in the uk... ahh good old days... digressing there.. i still have the ridgeback sat in the garage with lots of bits missing - cant buy them for love nor money - problem being sizes! - newer stuff uses new sizes (IE headsets BB's) 5 years later the cleveland mountain bike club was formed - far cry from the days where i turned up with my mountain bike to the cyclo-cross college champs and was met by one other guy - called danny pluck - ex british weighlifting champion - he had just finished his shift at british steel - turned up in hob nail boots and donkey jacket - and raced wearing them!!! lol - days of fun - wish you luck in finding the parts - they are rare Quote
combatsapph Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I might have some '95 LX STI shifters and a front mech - I'll have a dig. I don't have manitou forks BUT I do have a pair of servicable Rock Shox Mag 21 forks - circa 1996 - complete with needle air pump. They ride perfectly fine but do leak air from one leg over a period of about a month - probably just the dust seal. Was upgraded at time of purchase to 60mm LONG TRAVEL V-brake only though (no brake hanger). Would he be interested in them? I don't want to give them away but I'd not want a fortune for them either. blankczechbook Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 seeing old bike stuff makes me smile...happy days! am just trying to trace my early MuddyFox... it looks like a pre MuddyFox bike from the shop before they started trading as MuddyFox... which might mean its '82. Anyone know what shop name they used before they got the brand name?? Quote

Anyone know what shop name they used before they got the brand name?? twas always muddy fox from what i remember - my cousin still has one from the days we started! pearl white anyone remember the kirk prescision bike? made from some reconstituted sea water or summink daft? was on tomorrows world where they drove a car over the frame and it didnt bend break or anything! - my brother had one - black n pink.. lol we used to do all the races around here - boltby bash, there was one run by cleveland search n rescue - a run, or a bike, or a walk - cant remember the name - did the carlsberg world championships, grundig world championships, cyclo-cross ne championships, man vs bike vs horse, went over helvellyn a few times.. used to love it - met lots of very angry walkers who hated bikes using 'thier' paths.. lol.. some nasty people and some amazed. remember the early rockhoppers? craghoppers? marins? some of the early stuff was really heavy.. i ended with a saracen - had square aluminium tubing with magura hydraulic brakes, shimano XT - some pretty trick kit at the time and 'k*n expensive! didnt last more than a month some bits.. lol Quote
adam1330 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I've got some period stuff, Deore DX canti brakes, early LX groupset with 90's XT rapidfire+ shifters, X-Lite riser bars(brought when risers first became popular), Rockshox Indy C suspension fork, but it is still all attached to my early 90's Orange P7 frame, so he can't have them! It's been semi-retired for a few years since I got my Orange 5. I remember wanting a Kirk Revolution! Quote

Mark (smokey mow) Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 I've been out to the garage for a rumage around and have found several bits if your interested all from my 1994 Magic LX and were suppied with the bike. LX 5 arm compact drive crank arms and rings (black rings and silver arms) Grip Shift SRT600 8speed shifters and grips Shimano M600 V-brakes and levers (wern't suppied with the bike but were fitted in 1995) Pair LX wheel skewers Pair chrome bar ends Tranz X polished alloy ahead stem and bars Shimano LX pedals (not looking their best!) LX bottom pull front derailleur Fd-M565 11-32 (8spd) rear cassette I still have the frame too but it's now used on my pub bike and has evolved quite a lot since I bought it in 1994! I used to have loads more stuff but I had a massive clearout a couple of years back to raise money to buy the westfield. Back then I had an Orange 223 which was my all time favourate bke but now I'm riding a 2003 Marin East Peak fitted with a Whyte PRST-4 swingarm. Mark Quote

a4gom Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Still ride an original specialized rockhopper, your not telling me things have progressed are you? Suspension Thats what yer A*** n tyres are for! Got it third hand with a bent crank, paid £40 for it and £75 for a new crank and full service! That was probably in 1993, owned by two of my mates before me both marines who had given it some proper hammer. I can remember the first time I rode it, felt like I was been chauffeur driven compared to my old raleigh. Its a bit dodgy now, keep having to tighten the headset etc.. Quote
matthew h Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Just bought an Orange P7 pro................ Suspension is 140mm! Anybody here still go out - me & a few mates still go out a few times a month, Llandegla this Sat afternoon Re old kit - early 90's XTR rapid fire shifters in my garage, at least one of them works Quote
