steve mahon Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Just removed from my westie Quaife type 9 stright cut gearbox. I have swapped it for a BGH heavy duty. The only reason for this is that I found the Quaife a bit noisy for road use and it wasn't getting any track use. When I got the car in April the box was removed and stripped and rebuilt. Since then it's done about 2,000 miles with no problems. On the top of the box it has Road Race Transmissions which I believe are a Quaife dealer. I am looking for about £1,000 and can deliver within reason. I don't know how to get photos on the ad but if you send me PM I can send photos. Cheers Steve.
steve mahon Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 Also got other bits from the donor box but don't know what they are can PM photos.
stu999 Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Steve, is it a clubman or a Pro box? And do you know the ratio's please? Cheers, Stu.
steve mahon Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 Hi Stu 1st 2.39 2nd 1.54 3rd 1.21 4th 1.00 5th .87 Got to say I don't know the difference between a clubman and a pro box, is there any way to tell?
stu999 Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Not handily - without taking it out/apart anyway Unless anyone else knows different?
steve mahon Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 Will give the guy who worked on it a ring he should know. Is it something your intrested in?
MARTIN T Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Will give the guy who worked on it a ring he should know. Is it something your intrested in? You really need to find out if its a Pro or clubman before you can ask a grand for it, the cubman gearkit is around £850 and the Pro gearkit is around £1250, this is just the gearkit price and not the amount to rebuild the box with new bearings as well
steve mahon Posted November 25, 2008 Author Posted November 25, 2008 Is there any way I can tell which it is even if I take the top cover off?
MARTIN T Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Is there any way I can tell which it is even if I take the top cover off? Give Quaife a ring (01732741144) and have a chat with Len in technical, he will know if you can tell by looking under the top cover or not, the problem is the clubman gear set runs on the ford mainshaft shaft direct and the pro gear set runs on a new Quaife mainshaft with needle roller bearing between them, hence the reason the pro kit is stronger and more expensive
steve mahon Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 Spoke to Phill at Road & Race he's going to check the invoices and get back to me. But since that call i've had an email from the previous owner to say it's a stright cut pro box.
