Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 mpg matters ... (can you imagine how far the bluemotion polo would have gone with the jags fuel tank) so I didnt really get the point of the top gear road test ... size of the tank just helps you go further I am def getting old now because the though of having a car that can get 70mpg excites me ... is that wierd ? CrashBangWallop Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I've managed 320 miles in my Fiesta 1.6 Zetec-S. Pretty much all of that is inner-city driving/school runs, etc. I'm driving straight up the A1 from Cambridge to Newcastle in a couple of weeks, so, hopefully, I'll see a little bit more out of it. No idea what the Westie does. My odometer died shortly after the engine swap Quote
Rob Navin Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 My Honda Legend tells me it will do about 400 miles on a tank full. Never made it do it though. Its doing about 24 to the gallon now which is a big improvement from when I had it ! Still the micra is economical on the road, just in the forrests its not Quote
Kevin Wood Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Well, my tin top will do 330 on the LPG tank, if driven carefully, and then another 450 on the petrol tank. (3.2 V6 Omega). Westie will do 165-170 on a tank. Kevin Quote

That's pretty good for a car that size I think, although of course the huge tanks help as well! 100 miles out of my Westy tank before I'm preparing to get a leg over the side to scoot it along! Quote
Matt Williams Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 passat 110 tdi with TDI tuning box. Have never had less than 650, driving on b,c roads to work, but if driven carefully, have managed 800 (59mpg). I don't think I could get 1000 (74mpg) in dorset. There are no motorways and only about 50 miles of dual c/way in sections of 10 miles dotted over the county. Quote

Norman Verona Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 QUOTE My sprint car has a three gallon tank and it starts to splutter after about ten mins on track. So my sprint car is doing about 5-6MPG So no you dont get a prise Norm. Goodness knows what some of the big V8's are doing on track But I get 8mpg on a track day and about 5 if racing. Quote
ljsanders Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Honda Civic 06 plate iCTDi (2.2 litre) - Trip computer says about 45mpg most of the time, mostly motorway but I don't drive particularly frugally. Realistically I get about 42mpg out of it, the trip computer always reads a few mpg high. The tank is 50 litres, and I get approximately 430 miles when the fuel light comes on then I fill up with 45 litres. So I reckon I could squeeze about 470 out of it. Honda claim I should be about to get 42 average around town, 54 on the motorway and 64 at the usual 56mph. Had this car a year and I've got nowhere near it! Pretty rubbish really for a diesel so Honda's claims are a bit on the ridiculous side. Mind you its a darn sight cheaper to run that my old Leon Cupra, 28mpg always. Quote
Carl Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 QUOTE No idea .. if it was 53mpg well thats very very good for a big un like that No chance, more like 33mpg. 24mpg on a slow run...............................Focus ST. Quote
dombanks Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 my mondeo v6 did 8mpg at oulton if you believe them he did say 53mpg Quote
davidgh Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Dont think anything else in the vag group would manage it I seem to remember that Clarkson drove London - Edinburgh - London on one tank in an A8 4.0TDi. I regularly get 600+ range out of my (slightly more modern) 4.2TDi, driving normally with aircon on, etc. I'd be astonished if it couldn't manage Basel - Liddypoowol on a tank if driven cautiously Quote
