A4 tdi  170  , cant get the thing above 40mpg even when sitting on the motorway at 70!  Think some of these  economy claims are tosh.

My last Renault Laguna wouldn't do less than 53mpg unless you were on the autobahn

I can get nearly 200 from the Westfield before my bum twitches

2.2 ST TDCI Mondeo returned 55MPG last week on a 250 mile run.

Unusually its mostly town driving since I've had this car  but thought 55mpg was good for 'normal' (for me) motorway speeds  ;)

Road Westy will do 240mile to a tank

How the heck do you manage that?

Road Westy will do 240mile to a tank sprint car will do about 10 mins

My sprint car has a three gallon tank and it starts to splutter after about ten mins on track. So my sprint car is doing about 5-6MPG :D

So no you dont get a prise Norm. Goodness knows what some of the big V8's are doing on track :p

Earlier this year we had to drive over to Belgium to try out a super flow dyno.  We wanted to be able to compare the figures for a car that had run on our current dyno which we believe is dead accurate. Anyway I left Leicester in my A6 1.9 tdi at 3am, drove to Northampton, picked up Steve and headed for the chunnel.  Arrived at the dyno in Belgium at 11.45, thrashed the Audi for two hours on the dyno and then headed back to chunnel and got home at 11.20 pm. Most of the journey the car was into 3 figures except for some M25 type traffic in France. We filled up half way up the M1 having done 635miles on a tank with 30 miles remaining on the trip.  Not bad for a tuned car that makes 170 bhp and 290 ft/lbs of torque.

I tried to drive to Le Mans and back without refuelling in France in my Mums Renault Laguna Diesel.... Got to Calais (on way back) and had to top up :(  I blame Sam Cooke for making us drive stupidly fast on the way back!

Did well over 650 that trip and I reckon with less load and a little less speed I could easily do 750+ in that car...my new car isn't quite so economical and seems to have a fuel tank as small as my Westy :(

my nissan note 1.5 tdi does over 80 mpg if you keep it below 2000rpm.. Cant do that on a motorway but easy on back roads.. Never ever does less than 50mpg even if i dont try! Best fuel consumption iv ever had!

I manage about 45mpg, 165miles a day Aroad and a spot of motorway with pleanty of roundabouts. It did do 58mpg on a deliberate economy run, but this is a tad difficult to do every day.

BMW 123d, goes quite well.

Westy will do about 80miles if gentle/cruising in traffic like, but will drop to below half that if driven silly. On the trip to Le Mans that sparky manage 1 stop, I have 13 petrol stop receipts
