JeffC Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 watching the top gear programme with the kids last night and before hamster pulled up in the polo, I said I would have used a 1.4 pd tdi polo or A2 for the journey.Dont think anything else in the vag group would manage it Cant say ive ever owned a car that would cover 750 miles on a tank my beemer 335d would do 550 miles nursing it which for the performance I thought was staggering sooooo.... what does your tintop do on a full tank of fuel Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 L200 will do almost 500 miles before the tank runs out. Road Westy will do 240mile to a tank sprint car will do about 10 mins Quote
peterg Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 I've done 590 miles in a Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDi with DSG, I reckon I could get 650 or more if I drove like my Granny Quote
Norman Verona Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 My cateringvan will do 120 miles before the gauge stops moving. I can see it has a litre or two left in the tank at that point. Do I get a prize? Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 tbh it was more about the size of the tank in the case of the jag Quote
dombanks Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 clio gets about 10 miles to the litre so 450 ish on the tank. I was mostly impressed with the jag. like clarkson said he wasnt driving like a saint, tests like those are great for showing what can be done given good even conditions like motorways (remember clarskon doing london-Edinburgh-london in the A6) but he drove around like he didnt care, so perhaps was a little more akin to real life? Some one i know has the s-type with that engine in and they swear by it. still have to ask tho with diesel costing 14p a litre more is it not better to just get a petrol at the mo? Quote
Mike H Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Passat 1.9tdi pd130 - I could get 750 / tank out of that. Usually manage anywhere between 670 and 710 per tank with another 30 miles range left on the trip computer. One particularly frugal day I managed 63mpg on a 100 mile trip. Mike Quote
DAVE O Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 We drove from Home (North Notts) to Abingdon, Oxford at the wk end - wasn't in any particualr rush so set the trip computer when leaving home and checked at the end of the journey. Route was A roads and Motorway all the way and averaged 56mph with 41.2 mpg BM 523 with kids n loaded boot. Didn't think that was too bad. Normally would have doen about 34mpg I think Quote
Bean Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Golf 1.9 TDI PD 150 - Around 500 miles before it starts beeping at me! Quote
Captain Colonial Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 If I brim it and keep to 70ish, my Volvo S60 D5 will go 750+ miles (50 mpg), probably another 50 in the tank but not brave enough to risk it! Quote
V8grunt Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 On the run back from the south coast I managed 75MPG with VW Bora according to the trip computer! mostly motorway and I kept it to 60/65 mph. It has had the computer re written before I became the owner, which the dino read out confirmed 137 BHP, and I have also had it chipped so, I have no idea what the BHP is now? Only problem now is I cannot afford to fill it! Quote
scooby Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Fill mine up and i get about 220 miles 3.2 V6 VX Quote
RichP Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 QUOTE Matt Seabrook, Nov. 24 2008,15:48 Road Westy will do 240mile to a tank How the heck do you manage that? Quote

Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 The best Iv managed is 82 MPG in my Skoda Fabia VRS. Must admit, that was sitting with the 18 wheelers do about 50-55mph from Swindon to Central London Quote
