Welly Jen Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Does anyone know if you can fit a Thatcham category 2 immobiliser to a Westy that is on carbs? If so, any recommendations on type? Jenny Quote
combatsapph Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Perfectly doable. I bought a Toad Touch Sterling cat 2 for my westy - works a charm. Note though for it to be cat 2 it has to be professionally fitted and "certificated" - DIY install wont qualify it as a cat 2 immob - unless you happen to be an approved Thatcham installer that is :-) The Excel version of the same immob uses passive transponder rather than the touch type (I prefer touch types myself). chappers Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Apollo 780 transponder immobiliser from abacus car alarms works for me. £65 if you install it yourself, but as said needs to be installed professionally to get a Thatcham cat 2 certificate. Made no difference to my insurance so fitted it myself. Being a transponder it self arms/disarms, so no faffing about and no need for batteries. Recommended. Quote
Welly Jen Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 Had a Toad Sterling immobiliser fitted today, same as combatsapph. It held no terrors for the people fitting it. and was done in a couple of hours. Made very sure when I reversed out of their fitting bay to make sure I had reverse gear, rather than forward. A very nice black Ferrari parked in front of the Westy. I got about a mile away before I noticed that the oil pressure and water temperature gauges weren't working . Back to the fitters and they had them sorted in quick time. Jenny Quote
