Any heating experts out there?...

Just got home from a weekend away, only to find a drip coming through the celling...

I've tracked it down to a small pot with a tyre type valve on the top, the valve is leaking...It's located as the uppermost part of the pipe work that connects to the hot water tank(close to one way valve)...System is a non vented type......

Anyone know what these pots with valves on are called???..

Thanks.

Sounds like an automatic bleed valve if it's at the top of the system.

May be just the seat is furred up with lime and can't close off.

Thanks Derek,

I just did a quick search for bleed valve, and found this.....

Which looks exactly like mine :-) Any ideas where to order a new one from...

I did try spinning it around to see if it cleaned up, but it still leaks...!!!.

I think it's a turn the water off job,

Take the valve apart, find faulty bit of rubber/neoprene/butile. replace.....

End of problem!

Plumbing......I wish life was so simple!

I should have added that if you take the main body of the valve off leaving the bottom section in place, there is a sprung seal with an O ring (just visible in the photograph) which should shut of the water supply. The top part of the valve has a float inside which closes the bleed outlet when there is no trapped air.

Put your wellingtons on first  :)

You`ll need some thing like this and a couple of these.

You`ll be able to do it without draining the system down, just make sure you get the right replacment valve and let the central heating cool down before you try it.

Gents,

Many thanks for the inputs......I now have said part on order...and have noticed there are two isolation points, so no need to drain system :-)..

Once again, thanks to you all....Very helpful :-)

Paul.
