From Crossflow to Vauxhall Redtop

If it was me I would get a car with a XE already in it, I have a very nice narrow bodied xe westy but it started life with a x flow in it, lots of good bits like a  230hp engine, quaife gearbox etc, if I was to sell it I would probrally get around £8000 for it but it cost double that to build :(

Hi,

I am part way through a CVH to 2.0 litre Zetec, conversion, on an seiw.

So far with mainly second hand parts It has racked up £1800, with about £200 to go on cooling hoses and bits.

This doesn't include a rolling road session, but does include.

Twin 45's (2nd hand)

Inlet manifold (2nd hand)

Omex ecu and wiring (2nd hand)

Shallow sump (2nd hand)

2.0 Zetec engine (£123 from ebay)

Cam belt and tensioner (ebay boxed new)

1.8 fly wheel (second hand)

1.8 clutch (ebay boxed new)

Escort water pump (ebay new boxed)

Pump pully wheel (new)

exhaust manifold (new from Westfield)

Cheap oil and flush solution

Expensive oil for after flush

Short oil filter (plus light used one for flush)

Engine mounts from Westfield (new)

ARP conrod bolts,(New)

Some bolts and gaskets, (more still to buy)

Baring for gearbox to engine (new)

Possible Items still to get if the current ones dont fit:

Thrust bearing

Altinator (I have bought some aluminium to fasion mount having seen the raceline one)

Starter Motor.

Hope to sell:

CVH engine (westfield modular sourced unit with 6000 miles on it)

twin 40's & in let manifold

Exhaust manifold

I recon if I am lucky £2000 fitted and rolling road (If parts sell), If unlucky £2500.

Dont under estimate the cost of tools, unless you are already fully equiped or can borrow them.

Engine stand, engine hoist etc.

When fitted hope to get 160BHP

Fast Road Cam upgrade for zetec would give about 180 BHP when I have mastered the first power increase 160 BHP from about 100 BHP at present on CVH).

After that cost of more power gets progressively more expensive.

Another factor is that modern engines are better built generally and should need less work to keep going.

If the Zetec in standard tune goes wrong it can be easily swapped for another one for £150 and no expensive work or cams required to get 160 BHP again unlike the crossflow.

Friend has Duratec with about 200 bhp on tap, you will enjoy the extra power.

As for selling, narrow body cars are selling badly at teh moment saw o CVH wide go for £3500 on ebay recently, so the sell buy option might not be that much cheaper as 2.0 litre engine cars make about £6500 upwards.

Cheers

Forgot, :durr:

Spark plug leads

Spark plugs (ebay new and unused)

latex gloves

Degreaser,

Havent painted the engine block as not to bad. (Should I know)

May need a red top fuel pump and new fuel pressure regulator!!!

Help! the list gets worse, may have to extend the budget.

But enjoying every minute  :D

I did a CVH to VX swap last year, probably cost me £3k but I didn't keep the receipts.

Huge list of parts for the conversion, it's the small items that catch you out.

Radiator and hoses £150

Full gasket and filter set ~ £100

Ignition leads £50

Loom £50

Wire brush drill attachments and engine paint ~ £50

The list goes on... :0 But yes. it was good fun and I'd do it again.
