Spire Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 As some of you are aware I am building a “Westfield” with parts sourced from the good members of WSCC, EBay and Westfield. It is now nearing completion just the bodywork to make look good and the interior to finish. I no doubt that there will be lots of jobs I have not thought of. Now the chassis is a Westfield but I have no chassis number the question is what to do for SVA. I have built the car to use and keep not to sell and I know in any case the resale value will be less than a car with the correct numbers and history. Do I; a) let them give me a number and register it as a locost b) give them a number and call it a Westfield Or is there any other option. Thanks Quote
stu999 Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Possibly my ignorance showing here - but I thought *all* Westfield chassis' came stamped with an individual chassis number, regardless of it's final intended use? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Now the chassis is a Westfield but I have no chassis number Are you sure it's a Westfield - they all have chassis numbers without number there isn't anything Westfield can do Could be a copy there are some around you should never purchase a Westfield chassis without a chassis number stamped onto it Quote
Spire Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 Sorry I wasn't clear. I do know it is a Westfield chassis, let’s just say the number and chassis were separated along with a piece of paper before I bought the chassis. Quote
dombanks Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 how did you get it? my chassis was just a bare metal chassis when i picked it up from WF but it had the number stamped in it. the invoice i got from them had no number on it and they sent another without my asking? Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Sorry I wasn't clear. I do know it is a Westfield chassis, let’s just say the number and chassis were separated along with a piece of paper before I bought the chassis. So it's a ringer then which sounds worse. Quote
Norman Verona Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 If I was you I wouldn't even attempt to register it as a Westfield. Quote

How the f**k can it be classified as a ringer. I am not passing it off or registering it on a chassis number or registration number of a previous car. I am talking about giving it a new chassis number either my own made up number as I am allowed to do for home build or given a number by the authorities. Then registering through SVA. I was talking about the describtion of the car wheather it could be called a Westfield. As for the ringer talk to the person who bought the V5 from the guy who sold me the chassis and body. Quote
jeff oakley Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 You can register it using a made up Chassis number of certain letters and numbers, there is guidance from the Locost owners on this. What you cannot do is to call it a Westfield, as technically it is not one. It may look like one drive like one but it isn't one in the eyes of the law and any attempt to misrepresent it as one is a serious offence. You can call it what you want "Spire Sports" for example so long as no one has rights to the name. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 What Norman and Jeff said Don't register it as a Westfield - you could end up with problems Quote
Norman Verona Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 QUOTE Do I; a) let them give me a number and register it as a locost b) give them a number and call it a Westfield Option B will turn the car into a "ringer" Quote
Spire Posted October 23, 2008 Author Posted October 23, 2008 QUOTE quote=nverona,Oct. 23 2008,13:25] QUOTE Do I; a) let them give me a number and register it as a locost b) give them a number and call it a Westfield Option B will turn the car into a "ringer" A ringer is a car that takes on the identity of another car through chassis number and registration and is sold or passed on as such to hide its true identity. Or in other words fraud. I have never or never will intend to pass this car off as anything other than a car built of Westfield parts, just would of liked it to be called a Westfield on the TAX disc Sorry if some people on her think that I am doing something illegal which I am not that's why I asked the question to see if could be called a Westfield. QUOTE What Norman and Jeff said Don't register it as a Westfield - you could end up with problems Agreed as long as I can still be a member of the Club because I still like it even if I have been accused of ringing cars Quote
pistonbroke Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Why not call it a Springfield because its aSpiring to be a Westfield Quote
windy Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Talk to the DVLA first to ask them what the best course of action is. They are usually pretty helpful with this sort of stuff. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 QUOTE just would of liked it to be called a Westfield on the TAX disc Without correct chassis number and proper identification that may cause problems especially with insurance in the event of any claim and also for any re-sale - Better to be honest about it and as others have said be creative in it's name Quote
