erictharg Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I'm set on doing some hillclimbs / sprints in my Eleven next year. I've glanced through the MSA book a few times but not too clear on what I do and don't need to pass scrutineering and compete. The car is road legal and will be driven to / from events. I've got my competition licence. I've built a roll bar that I believe should meet requirements. Do I need a cut off switch? Will a hand held 2.5kg extinguisher be OK, or do I need plumbed in? Stickered helmet, obviously. Fire resistant overalls - but do they have to be FIA spec? Standard seats and 3 point harnesses OK? Already got double return springs on my SU. Appreciate any guidance from those in the know...Thanks. Quote
danmo Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 What size are you and where abouts are you? I have an FIA approved, nomex, Alpine starts race suit in size euro 50, and a size medium sparco helmet that I'm selling (only been worn a few times - NEVER DROPPED OR CRASHED) The siut was £380 new and the helmet £440 - open to offers on them Cheers, Dan Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 QUOTE Do I need a cut off switch? Not mandatory for road-going - just need an off direction sticker close to ignition key QUOTE Will a hand held 2.5kg extinguisher be OK, or do I need plumbed in? Not required at all QUOTE Stickered helmet, obviously. Yep - but check date and spec QUOTE Fire resistant overalls - but do they have to be FIA spec? check new rules in blue book for 2009 QUOTE Standard seats and 3 point harnesses OK? fine in road-going. Be careful on how much you do and prep until new blue-book is issued with your 2009 licence which you will need There are some changes Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Actually, I have heard that 3 point harnesses are no use from next year on. Apparently need to be 4 point Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Good Point Mr L - Not sure meself yet, thought that was for modified classes ? road-going are still permitted to use inertias So again best wait for new blue book Quote

JulianE Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 It will be interesting to see the 2009 book as I have just been looking at a thread on another forum and this indicates that there may be new rules on catalysts for "specialist production cars"(kitcars)for cars after 1999,as well as some other updates, this will be interesting to see in the new blue book and how this is worded by msa if this is what is being reported. You can see the thread on the hillclimb forum: www.uphillracers.com in the rules/regulation section Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 that there may be new rules on catalysts for "specialist production cars"(kitcars)for cars after 1999 There's no "may" about that one do a search and all will become clearer and most of the guys on uphill racers are from here and have already been notified of the rule change but don't like it (no-one does) ............. it doesn't matter how many times a question is asked............ the answer is still the same and sometimes we all have to get on with things. I certainly don't like the cat rule and along with other SSOT members have chased this down every avenue. Its not going to go away and MSA have confirmed various details and info which has been posted and sent out to SS drivers. Quote
erictharg Posted October 12, 2008 Author Posted October 12, 2008 Cats post '99 - is that year of build or year of registration (as in age of donor car)? I'm hoping the latter, as adding a cat to a carb fed A series is a non-starter! Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Cats post '99 - is that year of build or year of registration (as in age of donor car)? None of the above - it's the year of the chassis manufacture which is noted within your chassis number stamped in various places and the WSCC have that in writing confirmed by MSA Everyone that signs up for the WSCC Speed Series for 2009 will be asked to supply their chassis number so this can be cross checked and notification given to driver if they need a cat Dunno what other championships are doing that's up to them Quote
Graham Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 So are you saying that cars that don't currently legally require cats now need them for motorsport? Quote
Webby Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 When is the new blue book going to be available? 2009 Umm very helpful, leaves a lot of time to get prepared then!!! Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 QUOTE So are you saying that cars that don't currently legally require cats now need them for motorsport? That's the new MSA rules ............ yes, potentially if your car chassis is manufactured after Dec 31 1999 .............. nowt to do with engine age and before you say that's ****in stupid ............. do a search its all been said before and yes it is (IMO) QUOTE Umm very helpful, leaves a lot of time to get prepared then!!! it does actually there's loads of time Quote
Webby Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I'm just panicing that's all want to get on with it now we've made the decision. Quote
