Andy @ Cat Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Not trying to teach anyone to suck eggs. Thoughts about next years events. With the cost of fuel and everything else going through the roof and in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, would it be possible to have more double headers. I know we did quite a few this year, but we also went to places like Loton and Shelsley where there were events on Saturday and Sunday and our club only took part on one of the days? Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Hi Andy, It's a good point and I am trying to do something about this in next years calendar. As to your comments re Loton and Shelsley, I am afraid that we only get offerred the one day, much as I woul like us to have the 2 to make a weekend of it. Also you need to be aware that much as I tend to agree with your comments, I have also had people comment that they prefer the 1 day per weekend event as they can come along on the day, go home that night and then have the other day to do something else with the family. So they are not all Petrolheads like you and I and a few others we can think of Quote
Dave Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Hi Nick There are 2 hillclimbs at Epynt in 2009, I did this year's event as did Windy & Brian Jones & others:D Brilliant hill 1 mile in length with 3 miles on private roads back to the pits Its very very well run by Brecon MC http://www.breconmotorclub.co.uk/hillclimb This would make a good event for the WSCC Only down side (For you) is there are no single seaters allowed. Dave Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 QUOTE This would make a good event for the WSCC Maybe if it was on a different date and didn't clash with the WSCC organised sprint meeting at Curborough Quote
windy Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I've a suggestion: Run 2 events at different venues that are within reasonable distance of eachother on the same weekend. It would save on fuel & enable borderline break even individual events to be better supported. I think there are going to be a few organising clubs struggling for entries next year what with the credit crunch & new MSA rules for overalls, helmets & catalysts, price of fuel etc. For instance what about Sat / Sun: Harewood & Ollies Mount Harewood & Croft Dunkeswell & Wiscombe North Weald & Debden Pembrey & Epynt Prescott & Llandow Silverstone & Curborough Gurston & Wiscombe Quote

And I will see what I can do. Some slight problems with the ones you suggest:- Pembrey already is a double header. Epynt and Lys y Fran might make more sense ? Prescott ( trying to get in, but very difficult as limited dates) Silverstone - I thought you wanted lower entry fees, I am not aware of a sprint being held there ? if there is then let me know pronto. The biggest problem is the other clubs that are organising the events are limited in the dates they can give us, due to other long standing commitments. Quote

So they are not all Petrolheads like you and I and a few others we can think of On a double header weekend there be nothing stopping the guys who want to compete on just the one day doing just that. Another good point from Windy. If Llandow and Llys y Fran weren’t on the same weekend I wouldn’t go to ether. Just too far. I realise you will try your best to please as many people as you can. For that and for all the hard work you put in I thank you. Quote
RICHARD+PHILIP Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 wiscombe and dunkeswell sounds good for the southern crew Aparantly they have just rebuilt dunkeswell Quote
Club Chairman (Reserve) Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 There are many ideal "weekends" that we can all think of - sadly however the dates very rarely tie up until organising clubs make a concentrated effort to work together on their calendars - it ain't gonna happen, except by fluke Quote

He's having all sorts of local planning aggro though. I'm hoping to blag my way in to the opening ceremony if it ever happens... Quote

Bejasus, not sure I'd want to go there then...should be an exciting track but all that whingeing and moaning over the pa. Quote
windy Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Nick, Silverstone I think is organised by the MG car club. They use the Stowe circuit which is the little track by the side of Hangar straight. You may remember it from the Top Gear episode where richard Hammond drove the f1 car there. Good venue & central too. I don't recall anyone moaning it was expensive either. Also might be worth looking at some hillclimbs in the south west, Porlock Hill / Lyme Regis etc. There are a few other venues which don't seem to get much national publicity down there too. Will try to dig out some more info Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Think Silverstone Stowe circuit is run by BARC Midlands. I did my first ever sprint there a few years ago. Not been since. How about combining that with a MIRA on a weekend Nick Lear reckons Porlock hill is for tin tops only. What about Colerne or Castle Coombe? The thing is, people from down south complain that there are not enough events for them and when there is one hardly anyone enters Quote
