pistonbroke Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Good to here F2 is making a come back In the 60's F2 was top line racing with some fantastic duals , they could also use circuits which were deemed unsuitable for F1. 1966 saw the F1 "return to power" from 1500cc engines to 3000 ltrs Due to a shortage of GP engines the F2 cars would run alongside the F1 cars in Grand Prix races Jacky Ickx quallifeid 5th at the Ring and ran as high as p3 in the race after having to start from the seperate F2 grid behind all the pukka F1 cars Just one example of how a newby could stamp his mark on the F1 world and mucho embarrasment for a lot of "star" F1 drivers . After a long and succesful history F2 was replaced by F5000 ( another great formula) due to the runaway costs in the F2 engine department . Quote
