RichP Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 As above really - following installation of electronic ignition I don't need a distributor so I'd like to remove it. Is a blanking plate / plug / whatever available, or do I need to make one? Cheers Rich Quote
Toby Mack Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I've heard of people using a core plug. Personally I made one, or rather got a mate to make one for me Quote
Blatman Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I'd ring Vulcan Engineering or Burtons for advice. They'll know what to do and what's available... Quote
Hammy Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Aaah that old chesnut....I know Burtons don't do them, cus I've rung em. I'm ( still ) sure someone could make a batch and sell them on easily -I'd buy one. There have been past threads on this, never sorted to my knowledge ( I've left the dizzy in) Quote
Major Stare Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I made one. A flat piece of metal, slightly larger than the hole (like a solid washer) and secured with the existing bolt. Quote
RichP Posted September 18, 2008 Author Posted September 18, 2008 Thanks for the tip Jon - a good plan in the absence of anything easily available. Cheers Rich Quote
Hammy Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I made one. A flat piece of metal, slightly larger than the hole (like a solid washer) and secured with the existing bolt. does it seal ok being secured just on the one side ? or does a good gob of goo help?? sounds like a plan -that old dizzy must absorb 1bhp Quote
RichP Posted September 18, 2008 Author Posted September 18, 2008 Must be possible to use an old dizzy, hacked about to leave the bottom of the body that fits into the block. remove the shaft, cut off the top etc, weld a plate on to seal it. Then it'll clamp in as intended and should seal ok. Don't want to do this to mine tho as it's an Aldon job. Quote
a4gom Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I've had a core plug in mine for over 5 years with no problems Quote
thos Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Used a core plug for the same thing on my 4age. Plenty of guys on ebay selling them, just gave them the diameter, cost me £3! Quote
Major Stare Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I made one. A flat piece of metal, slightly larger than the hole (like a solid washer) and secured with the existing bolt. does it seal ok being secured just on the one side ? or does a good gob of goo help?? sounds like a plan -that old dizzy must absorb 1bhp I used the dizzy securing ring thingy as a template and used silicone as a seal.
