dhutch Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 And yes i know yellow has two l's, i ran out of characters ok! But yeah, first registered 1991, 1.9l ford CVH engine on twin dellortos. Dont know if anyone can tell me more about the car? - I bought it off someone i contacted via pistonheads who has had it 18months. Previous owner had it most of the its life before him. Built by a third guy. - Its obvously had the clam wings come off at some point, new headlamps, various other bits. Bloke i bought it off has put a new dash in it, and replaced the engine like for like with one that had been in a Mk1 Fiesta on TBs. Using the orignal carbs, box, rads, etc. Im very happy. Possable work for the future includes fitting a RAC/MSA style roll bar. The will if nothing else hopfully be taller than me, unlike the current one. Paint chassis (only minor rust, but paints all falling off left right and center so might as well) Also possable change to non-bench seats. And make full-beam dash light less ruddy bright!! (drove home in half light and was half blinded by the thing let along oncoming cars). Might also look into repairing a corner of the bonnet thats got a bit knocked off it (matt didnt make it into the corner when new from the looks, so just gellcoat over air bubble, wich has come off). But yeah. CUFFED TO BITS!! Must get on with work. Last day friday, lots to do. Daniel Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 The will if nothing else hopfully be taller than me, unlike the current one Depends, if you are much over 5' 10" the RAC style bars still do not provide sufficient cover when wearing a skid lid and you may need to make further amendments Enjoy it and be careful and whats with the blue cateringvan next to it Quote
dhutch Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 Cateringvan is nothing to do with me. Photo is the one i was sent before i went to view it and i have no idea where it was taken. Im 6ft2. So im a fair bit over the top of it even without a helmet. Is there an option geting a RAC bar thats taller than std. Obviously not second hand nessarally then, but seams it might as well be right than have one too low and satrt bodging onto it. Unless you could have a bolt on extension, and the rest below the line of the weathergear? Daniel Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Nothing standard available yet, fingers crossed some day there may be something without having to weld on extra hoops At 6' 2" even with seats without trim fixed direct to floor you may struggle with current roll bar height Bolt on extensions perhaps not a good idea Quote
Rob Navin Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 When I got my RAC bar from Westfield they made it taller for me. Failing that you could go to some where like Custom Cages and have a bar made to your spec In my mine a lot better than having a hoop welded on. Quote

dhutch Posted September 5, 2008 Author Posted September 5, 2008 Im no afraid of the wet paul! Daniel You aint driven a Westy in the wet yet Drove it work today in the pouring! Got out last night after work in a window of dryness for half an out, last day of work here after a 15month sandwich placment with JCB, so i had to bring it to show my boss and the like (we're all engineers) and it went ok. Its only a 15minute drive, plus stoping at tesco for cakes. Points taken: - Leaving coat at work the day before is a poor idea. - Taking door off to demist screen is also a poor idea. - If your 6ft2 the hood is low enough to cause issues on a longer drive. - The little peice of foam at the bottom of the door real does help seal it. Passenger side doenst have it. Wet cakes. - A cloth for demisting/wiping stuff would be a good addition. As would refitting/repairing the passenger windscreen wiper. - The bloke who sold it to be was right, at speed you do get water under the hood. College who has westy suggested maybe they should have a wiper on the inside too for this. Excellent. Taking freinds sister to loughborough in it tonight and on to narrowboat/vintage/car/steam/train fesitval at shackerstone for the weekend. Daniel Quote
