The Seer Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Coolant level is a requiring a top. Engine is 91' 2.0 ltr Zetec. Can I use a basic coolant bought from Halford's or any independent motor factor? Thanks. Quote
Kevin Wood Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Depends what's currently in there. If it's blue / green coolant then just use standard antifreeze. If it's orange or pink coloured it could be long life coolant and the jury's out as to whether it's safe to mix it with standard antifreeze. Some say it's fine but as usual there are also horror stories out there. FWIW, I just use standard antifreeze as the long life coolant (which I use on the tin tops) apparently isn't as good for cars that only see occasional use, as dictated by our weather at the moment. Edited to say: Standard coolant should be changed every 2 years, long life up to 5 years. Kevin Quote
The Seer Posted September 6, 2008 Author Posted September 6, 2008 The coolant is sort of an orange/red colour. I presume this can be purchased a local motor factor, but is there different types of this coloured coolant? Thanks. Quote
