The Seer Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Sorry for asking a question probably discussed many times before. Im aware an SEiW incorporates an independent axle and the SEW doesnt.Presumeably this means the SEiW is the set up to have over the SEW?Greater handling? Thank you. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Nope, not necessarily many live axle cars handle very well and better than an independent It will depend on yourself and the time and effort put into it An SE can be made to handle very well .................. and an SEi can handle very badly Personal choice and preference I would always go for an SEi ................. Terry Everall Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 IMHO if you want big power you need an SEIW Quote
Mark B Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 SEIW is the better car for most, offering better adjustment (camber, toe etc) aswell as better handling, particularly on bumpy surfaces, plus with a sierra diff in the independent cars it can handle alot more power. As mark states though a badly set up SEIW will feel awful, always best to have the geometry setup properly, it can transform a car. Quote
samcooke Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Wot they said, plus : live axle cars are lighter, science tells us they can't ride as well and can't have as much traction, though practically this can be marginal both ways. HTH Quote
The Seer Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 IMHO if you want big power you need an SEIW So near 240 bhp with a live axle isn't recommended? Quote

Matt Seabrook Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 To be honest a live axle car is not as good as an IRS car on a rough surface. I would have thought if you are hopping curbs on track an IRS would be better as well but cant speak from experience of that . Quote

I would have thought if you are hopping curbs on track an IRS would be better as well but cant speak from experience of that . Not too good on rough surfaces? Intending to purchase a car imminently for road usage so perhaps an SEiW would make for a better choice with above circa 220 bhp? Quote
Hammy Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 An SeiW with Seirra type diff will always sell for more than a similar spec'd live axle car too. Market forces! Quote
fatbaldbloke Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 QUOTE An SeiW with Seirra type diff will always sell for more than a similar spec'd live axle car too. Market forces! Correct, and the same argument means a decent SEW can be bought for less. Quote
The Seer Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Can an SEW be converted to SEiW? Or is this not possible? Quote
peterg Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 in theory, anything's 'possible' as to whether it's practical then probably not... there's no reason why a well setup and maintained live axle car can't be just as good as an independent though, I wouldn't let it bother you too much if the rest of the car is good Quote
