RichP Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 As above really - trying to do some repairs and my gel coat won't go off. I have gel coat hardener for epoxy gel coat, but I wonder if Westfield use polyester based material? I'll try to call Westfield later, but wondered if anyone happened to know? Cheers Rich Quote
Dirk Schauvliege Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Hi, It's polyester based gelcoat. Don't forget if you put your gelcoat on to seal it with tape so air cannot get in contact with the gelcoat when it hardens. if not your gelcoad will remain sticky. Dirk Quote
RichP Posted August 23, 2008 Author Posted August 23, 2008 Thanks Dirk Typical! I now have a sticky mess on the car to clean off then! Fortunately a small area. Thanks for the tip with taping over the top - I wasn't aware of that. Cheers Rich Quote
pistonbroke Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Epoxy and Polyester hardners are not compatible . You must use the correct hardner (catalyst) for whichever system you use . You can also get "flowcoat " same thing as gelcoat but it contains a small amount (2%) of a special wax , which cures to a hard surface , eliminating the need for using cellotape to cover the repair . perksy Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Westfield coloured Gel coat MEKP Hardener Wax solution Mix some hardener & Wax (2% of each by volume) with the Gel coat Bought from HERE Saves b*******ing about trying to exclude the air using sellotape etc Quote
RichP Posted August 23, 2008 Author Posted August 23, 2008 Hi Persky Excellent - thank you. I can't see anything on the site relating to MEKP -search results give me this. Could you tell me which one you chose please? Thanks Rich Quote
