Ross Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Hi, As a relative newbie to trackdays only been to croft and teeside i am wondering how crofts straight in terms of terminal velovity compares with other circuits. Can any one help. The reason i am asking is over the winter i will need to change the diff ratio currently 4.1. This is ok at croft using bigger rear slicks 23/57/13. However if i change to road tyres (215/50/13) which i am thinking of using to race i hit the limiter to early and back off a bit (mechanical sympathy). Therefore i have thought about changing to 3.9 diff but as i don't know the ratios of the gearbox i can not work out terminal velocities. All i know is the g/box is 4 speed Trans x SCCR with 2.04 1st. Any help greatly appreciated. Regards Ross Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Longest straight in UK is Revett straight at Snetterton Quote
Ross Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Longest straight in UK is Revett straight at Snetterton How long is that compared to Croft's ? Also helpful would be what circuit do people see the max speed as the previous corner could have an affect on terminal velocity Ross Quote
JeffC Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 think the quickest Ive gone on a trackday is at oulton Park coming out of cascades at speed along the straight into island bend was the only time Ive run out of revs on my 1550 busa with 3.13 diff . edited to say also run out of revs on two airfields, Elvington and Bruntinthorpe Quote
mjones31 Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I,m doing a driving day soon in an supercharged atom at the prodrive test track in kenilworth. They claim there straight is a mile long but i,ll tell you when i,ve been. Mark Quote

Ross Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Next question is do i change diff to 3.9 or 3.6. I know it owuld be helpful if i had full ratio's for the gearbox will Trans x be able to tell me or are they likely to be custom ? Regards Ross Quote

custardtart Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I know a couple of guys in se7ens running 155bhp zetecs on 185x60x13" tyres are hitting 125 - 127mph on the revett straight at snett - don't know what diff, would guess at 3.9 using 4spd box with tran x ratios and likely 7500 rev limit. I haven't been to snett for a few years, the last time i was there was in a 120bhp x-flow, 3.9 diff, rs2000 box, 185x60x13" tyres and hitting 120mph on the limiter at 7000rpm about 3/4 way down. samcooke Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 My R1 car comfortably hits the limiter in top at Snett (129mph). If you've got c. 150bhp I'd say you need to be geared towards 125mph, c. 200bhp then 135. Quote

Guest Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 it all depends how you enter revit straight ... and sear is a corner oh to easy to dangler up ........ and boy will it affect terminal velocity ..... i would say with 240bhp you'll see somewhere around the 140 mark , maybe ...... longest straight in europe was barcelona Gp , but spa's kemmel straight can't be far behind .... hit 148 there.
