Bean Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Alas I think the web con systems you have to take it to a registered dealer / tuner (NMS???)...... Better still, chuck it in the bin and fit something more tuner friendly. Quote

Tis true about registered dealers but I wouldn't advise chucking in the bin to someone working out if £250 on carb tune is worth it. A replacement would cost £300+++ Quote
Tim Reid Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I have a synchrometer if you want to borrow one. Kevin Would you be available to bring it to the next Thames Vally meet? 14th September, The Bird in Hand, A4 between Maidenhead and Reading. I think 'brindle' would be worth checking and I wouldn't mind a quick sync check Quote

Better still, chuck it in the bin and fit something more tuner friendly. Depends on just how user unfriendly it is. If you can see enough to make adjustments to the throttle pot, then with a cab'd car running 3D ignition, that'd just about be enough. If you can't even adjust the throttle pot, then you'll need to take it to a dealer if you want to adjust something as simple as tickover... Quote

A replacement would cost £300+++ The cheapest replacement would be Megajolt for DIY ignition, all the sensors should be inplace....should cost about 80 quid to get MJ up and running.. However, all this depends on the carbs...it may be they just need a balance and a tune and the ignition is perfectly ok...Fingers crossed.. Quote

By all means. about time I made it to a meet. QUOTE Better still, chuck it in the bin and fit something more tuner friendly. If upgrades were on the cards I'd agree but if it's just a case of balancing the carbs the ignition can be left alone and forgotten afterwards. Granted the Alpha isn't the best choice but once it's fitted, mapped and working it'll do the job. Kevin Quote
brindle Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 thanks guys - bought a synchrometer - should arrive tomorrow and I will have a go at balancing them. Cheers for all the input. Quote

I meant sell on Ebay, then upgrade to a more tuner friendly mappable system. I will do the same one day, mine is an ancient (nobody has the software to map) Webcon Alpha ignition only system. Quote
hilux Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Try this for a `how to` One other aspect is that as long as the jets are correctly sized and there are no leaks downstream of the Webers, in particular the little rubber mounts. If you ease the carb up and down and the engine note speeds up or drops you`ll know they are leaking and re too tight, too loose or perished. Good luck. Quote
