flat_four Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Is it just me that finds the very idea of this scary...?
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Is it just me that finds the very idea of this scary...? Nope, me too. It could be a superbly built, well engineered car, using a variety of factory spec or higher parts. Or it could be the equivalent of a Robin Hood Lightweight
Rob Navin Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Commonly referred to as ringing Not sure that I fully agree with that Mark. We both know of cars that have had this done and I would be happy to get in any of them. We also both know people who have sold them. Ok this is the first time any one has advertised for it but it has been going on for a long time. As long as the identity and chassis plate are for sale and never go back on the other car I cant see a problem. As for build quality and saftey I have to say the SVA's that I have gone through are less intrested in saftey than a good MOT. They seem to be more intrested in the radiused edge on a swith under the dash than making sure a driver woudl survive in a crash.
ASB Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 i know of someone who shall remain unnamed who got fined for doing this
Mark Stanton Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 QUOTE We both know of cars that have had this done and I would be happy to get in any of them. We also both know people who have sold them. Ok this is the first time any one has advertised for it but it has been going on for a long time. I fully agree Rob the however is......... we both know that it is not the right thing to do in order to be 100% legal - whatever way this happens it is still technically ringing - to use a.n. other cars log book, one must use that car for the provision of a certain amount of parts for the kits final construction ........... although we both know about such matters, still does not make it legal.......... just that it demonstrates we're both getting old and been around for a while Perhaps to request so openly for a car logbook in this manner is not in the interests of anyone to promote or condone such practices
Rob Navin Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Now this is a worry as I find myself agreeing with Blatters from this link. Don't get me wrong I am not condoning this sort of advert and all of my cars are pre SVA so it does not really bother me. What I am saying is that to me it is not as big an issue as is being made out as has been proved on more than one occasion. As I recall this is a closed area with no access to non club members so I would not consider it a risk to the club for different views to be aired. If you do feel this is "not in the intrest of anyone" why not delete the thread rather than comment on it?
Mark Stanton Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 This area is for posting by members only, but viewable to anyone and everyone Why would the thread not be of interest
Rob Navin Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Perhaps to request so openly for a car logbook in this manner is not in the interests of anyone to promote or condone such practices I was refering to your quote here ! Should have quoted you in my last post I guess.
Matt Seabrook Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Now this is a worry as I find myself agreeing with Blatters from this link. If its not a problem why would someone be fined?
swaheney Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 you only need to type in log book on ebay and see how many there are for sale on there .just to get a few things straight here ,the car will be m.o.t ied and be fully road legal ,im not going to build a crock of ---- and put my life at risk driving it, the fact of the matter is a kit car is made up of various bits as we all know, im not going to ring a car ,I HAVE A NEW VIN PLATE AND BILL OF SALE FROM WESTFIELDsomeone may have broken a bent car and just have the chassis and log book left .one chassis is identical to another apart from numbers stamped on one rail with a set of punches, all im saying is that i want to build my car from scratch how i want it not to have to stick stupid bits of rubber here and there and have this here and that there ,how many of you out there have done the sva and left the car exactly as it passed the test ,NOT MANY AT ALL I SHOULD THINK there are thousands of dodgy driving kitcars out there that are on the road that never should be on the road mine will not be one of them i assure you of that
