RS WST Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 http://www.enginemanagement.co.uk/ Has anybody ever used / know anybody who has ever used a KMS ecu Anybody know any thing about it at all ?? Its ment to be totally self mapping toying with using it on my new track car Quote
zoso Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I know the Peugeout loving chaps like them a lot, but other than that I've not come accross them much. The best management in the world.... Probably (or is that Carlsberg) Quote
RS WST Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 I noticed Westfield are now supplying them from the factory Quote
combatsapph Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I thought KMS was a modified Megasquirt ECU with thier own written tuning software? Hmm, let me find the link. Quote
bill shurvinton Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Hope not Megasqquirt is pants care to elaborate... Quote
RS WST Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 Hope not Megasqquirt is pants care to elaborate... NO its a thread about KMS You have any exprience of KMS Bill? Quote
combatsapph Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 NO its a thread about KMS Which may also be about Megasquirt if I'm correct EDIT: Nope can't find the link but the KMS feature list looks almost exactly the same as the MS feature list and the "Auto Mapping" feature sounds exactly like "auto tune" for MegaTune - both require a wideband sensor and both adjust the fueling by driving the car on the road and making changes to match AFR targets. Overall, not that much information out there about the KMS system it seems. Hope not Megasqquirt is pants What a carp blanket statement Quote
RS WST Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 Hope not Megasqquirt is pants What a carp blanket statement Just about every aftermarket ECU on the market has similar functions and the Autotune facility done through a lambda Not wanting to go off topic but i know 5 people who have bought and used Mega Squirt and have been dissapointed and as a result decided to get rid of it and use another system such as MBE, OMEX etc A friend of mine is a professional well respected engine mapper and has tried Mega Squirt on his own race car, he ditched it and put DTA on it instead, car runs faultlessly now. Anyway Just spoke to QEP who are the UK Distributors for KMS All the circuit boards and software design is done in house at KMS, as Matt from QEP personally knows the engineer who does it all Has anyone used the M35 ECU from KMS? Quote
combatsapph Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Hey, I wasn't saying that Megasquirt was any better (or worse), just that I thought the KMS system was based on it, whcih seemed to be backed up by the near identical feature set. However, you've now spoken to KMS personally and they say that's not the case so I was wrong - can't remember where I got the notion from TBH. Don't know anyone who has used the system but it looks a neato bit of kit - I've not looked at prices though and that normally makes me like or not like a product! Quote
stephenh Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Yes, its fitted to my factory built duratec engined car (as in avatar) which was one of the very first. It has KMS ecu, and KMS throttle bodies/injection. Seems to work fine. Troy at Northampton Motorsport said it was the highest output he had measured on his rolling road from what is a standard 2.0 duratec (ie standard cams pistons head and valves) although it did have the Westfield trackday silencer on (no precious metal inside it IYKWIM) but still only 2" bore. Mind you, its still nothing like the tuning firms who offer throttle body conversions claim, it was about 190 bhp at the flywheel computed. I do have an issue with Westfields over it, because it is a new factory built car. It needs some adjustment to the fuel/air mixture at low speeds, and Troy was unable to adjust it via the ecu because it turned out to be password protected. Westfield wont give me the password until the engine is out of warranty, in March of next year. However thats another issue, and rather off topic, sorry. It wont apply to anyone getting a unit from QEP. I am told the programming can be downloaded from the KMS website free of charge. Quote
DutchWestfield Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 As far as I know KMS is not based on the Megasquirt ECU. The KMS system was (and is) developped by a company called "Van Kronenburg motorentechniek" in The Netherlands. http://www.vankronenburg.nl/PHP/page.php?page=home_uk The website states: Van Kronenburg KMS In 1998,Van Kronenburg Autosport started the development of a complete new line of engine management systems called KMS. From the beginning of the development, the main goal was to offer an extremely reliable and user-friendly system at a very competitive price. KMS offers the possibility to manage all (turbo + n/a) petrol engines up to 10 cylinders with options such as self-learning lambda control, boost control, idle control, launch control, power-shift, rpm limiter for soft and hard limits. The unit has extra outputs for shift- light, water injection, cooling fan, fuel pump, etc. Website for KMS: http://kms.vankronenburg.nl/ The KMS system has been used with succes by the Dutch Westfield rep for the last few years. Before he used KMS, he used to use DTA (which was on my car). Dutch Westfield rep is here: http://www.westfieldnederland.nl/ Now to be honest I am not really up to speed with the latest developments at DTA, but a few years ago the KMS was well ahead from the DTA having self learning by wideband lambda for quyite some time now. I suppose DTA does that as well by now? Quote
