ludo Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Hi, I am looking for some teng tool, when I was in Ireland my housemate had a nice toolchest full of their stuff and I found them to be pretty good. I am trying to built a survival kit to bring to the track. I was hoping to be able to afford Facom's but it's too pricey for me If you have some other good recommandation I am open. For the rachet, the pick up is only 8° on teng's which is not great compare to Facom's 5°, which is nice when working on confined spaces. Quote
peterg Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Loads of people (including me) use the Halfords Professional range, very good sockets and spanners and they all come with a lifetime guarantee Quote
ludo Posted August 7, 2008 Author Posted August 7, 2008 not sure Halfords will deliver to france though. I'll check out. Quote
zoso Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Britool is Facom's cheapy range, and if you buy wisely it's very good stuff. I have Teng stuff too, some of it is really nice, some feels a little cheap. Halfords pro stuff is nice. Quote
wiz 1 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Another vote for Halfords, also Draper Expert is pretty good. Quote
CedricTheBrave Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 my halfords tools have been good for 10 years now none damaged or broken Quote
Jackv4 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 teng all the way for me,mind you tho there is a very big markup on there tools,im freindly with a sales rep and get about the 30percent or more of retail price,if you no someone in the trade to get them for you, great tools and lifetime warrenty, like the others say you get nice quality tools for your money with the halfords stuff and lifetime warrenty to,really as they say (you get what you pay for)have quite a few facom tools(wont find better)if your looking for a very smooth fine rachet, teng, britool, facom all do these but they dont normally come standard in there socket sets,my britool one is very good,,buy it seperate, best of luck johny Quote
Darrell O'Neill Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Britool is Facom's cheapy range, and if you buy wisely it's very good stuff. Is that right? never knew that... I have some very old Britool stuff that My grandad bought when they first brought out the metric tools. He used it in his garage (he was a panel beater and mechanic) and now they're in mine. I have to say I think the quality of the old Britool is better than my Snap-On stuff... Quote
ludo Posted August 7, 2008 Author Posted August 7, 2008 not a bad idea to buy everything seperatly, might work out a bit more expensive but I get exactly what I want. Quote
PeP Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I got myself a very nice Teng topbox and mechanics tool kit but the firm I bought off seems to have gone, this always struck me as a bargain if you can afford it, I know it's nearly 2k but 1001 pieces, less than £1.90 a piece. Quote
nikpro Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Snap-On if you can afford it is easily the best IMO, Quote
zoso Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Snap-On if you can afford it is easily the best IMO, For spanners, ratchets, sockets and a few other things (hammers and specific things) maybe... But I've found alot of snap on stuff is overpriced and under quality compared to other brands. A tool box full of snap on only stuff is good for neatness tho, total garage bling. Quote
ludo Posted August 8, 2008 Author Posted August 8, 2008 I got myself a very nice Teng topbox and mechanics tool kit but the firm I bought off seems to have gone, this always struck me as a bargain if you can afford it, I know it's nearly 2k but 1001 pieces, less than £1.90 a piece. won't fit in the westy boot thought A mate offered me a facom travel tool case, empty: hotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262#ebayphotohosting" target="_blank">facom carry case , so I am looking to fill it up with the essentials: Hammer and cutting plier as well as a set of 1/4" socket and drive, 3/8", screw driver+bits, and ratchet spanners, allen keys, a set of various spanners and grippy things. I have a nice set at home too but I dont want to take stuff in and out of it because I know I don't have the discipline to put it back after Quote
