craig-c Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Right i have £400 to spend on a decent SLR camera, which one to go for, i am going on holiday and would like to take some decent action shots, i do like the Canon Eos range but what do you guy's think, and what do i need to look out for? how about this http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product....1024820 Craig Quote
nlash Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Canon and Nikon are the market leaders so lens and product support is superior to the options of Olympus, Pentax Sony etc. There isn't much to call between the Canon 450D or Nikon D60 with kit lenses although the Nikon advantage is a two year warranty over the Canon's one year. Being a Nikon man, i'm biased but I think their build quality is much better than the Canon. The Canon is a bit of a plastic pig IMO. Best thing to do is try in a shop, get a feel of the handling and operation. Then buy off the internet, don't buy from Jessops, they are on the verge of going bump again. Warehouse Express are a very good internet dealer. Quote

nlash Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Check out kea-photo on ebay. He is a Hong Kong dealer and is very very good. You get huge discounts buying from HK and this particular dealer dispatches very quickly and you will have your item delivered within 4 days. Nikon still warranty HK imports as their guarantees are worldwide. I have bought kit from him in excess of £10K with no worries or concerns. Check this out for cost savings! kea photo Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 The D60 from warehouseexpress has a £60 cashback offer so at the moment works out better than the HK price. D60 Offer Very tempting Quote
scooby Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 you would be better of with a panasonic TZ-5 or TZ-3 they get better reviews than most £400-£600 D-SLR's Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 I'm gonna buy a TZ5 tomorrow my local Currys Digital are having a Panasonic special day with a least 10% off the already good price of £209 plus some extras thrown in. Do you want a new one I have my Fuji SLR type which I hardly use there too big to lump around. Quote

nlash Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Check this out for cost savings! kea photo Some cracking deals there. How are they at honoring the Vat free deals? They mark the parcels with an item which doesn't really reflect the contents. If you fall foul of the customs however, kea-photo refund the duty you have had to pay. All you have to do, is email the receipt to them Quote

If customs x-ray the goods (and they x-ray *loys* of stuff) and find that the description doesn't match the contents, then bad things can happen. And by bad, I mean at best a telling off for being careless on the customs form. At worst, it's Customs Fraud. If you ask him to mis declare it to avoid duty, it's also conspiracy to defraud. If this guy us sending lots of stuff in that's mis declared, it's only a matter of time. Also, if the item is lost or damaged in transit, then you can only claim for the item described, and the shippers and customs are *very* good at knowing what stuff is worth. So, declare it accurately, insure it appropriately and have no worries. Quote
