DerekJ Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Hi All, I have to claim some expences for a job I did "up north...". About 700 miles round trip in the tin top. Anyone any idea how much I should put in for the ££/mile figure??? Cheers Guys. DJ Quote
SparkyB Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I claim 40p a mile with my company, though it drops after 10,000 miles, think that's a fairly standard amount. Quote
N_J Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 From what I remember (its been a while since I claimed any mileage) there are IR maximums that can be claimed. I think its 40p pm at the moment. Quote
DerekJ Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 Cheers Guys, I'll use 0.30 as I don't want to rip them off DJ Quote
BuGsBuNnY Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 The revenue allows 40p for the first 10000 miles a year, 25 pence thereafter. Quote
Blatman Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 HMRC rules and regs here. No need to rip them off, but you really should claim every penny possible. It's your/my/our money after all... Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 If you look at your MPG and the cost of fuel, 40p seems cheap !!! Quote
danmo Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 The AA say including wear and tear of the car it should be 42p a mile. Dan Quote
dombanks Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 the university allows us to claim 40p per mile if we use our car to go to a conference. Quote
custardtart Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Using the max 40p is the way to go. Our work policy is a miserly 14p, we then get tax back on the remaining 26p if we claim that ourselves Used to work for a company that allowed 90p a mile, did 60k miles a year for the two years I worked for them but after a year they realised the error and it went to 40p Quote
Norman Verona Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 QUOTE It's your/my/our money after all... I think it's his companies money in this case. Only the tax element is ours. I vote that he can have my money. Quote
combatsapph Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I 2nd claiming 40p. Even though my company only gave us a 20p mileage allowance when they forcibly relocated us Quote
david.c Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Cheers Guys, I'll use 0.30 as I don't want to rip them off DJ You can bet that they would be claiming the higher amount when they are billing their customers. And as others say it is the approved amount. David Quote

Ah yes, but 40p/mile for the first 10k miles is tax free so it's a good way of ensuring you don't pay too much tax, especially if you're taking it from your own company. And don't forget that if you take someone else, the allowance is 45p/mile. Brian Quote
