Hammy Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 pinto, Cvh. x/flow, all 20-22 mpg ish. I would hope/ image a Zetec motored car, which has been set up properly would be better - especially if it has fuel injection, but probably not significantly so. You need to get your granny to drive it in slippers with a massive throttle return spring to have any hope of 30mpg, a nice fuel injected motor might do it at a steady 50mph, but this is outside of my experience (esp' the stready 50mph part!) Sounds fair enough then. - Im only geting 30 (well, tbh, 28-29) out of the 306, and at the end of the day its not exactly the reason for buying a westy/seven is it! Just a fleeting thought. dhutch Posted July 16, 2008 Author Posted July 16, 2008 Ive just been offered this car www.avon-kitcar.co.uk - 2004 registered zetec engined tigar avon built by someone i worked with breifly and used to go mtbing with. Dont know what its worth but proberbly recepts towards the £8k mark prehaps? Proberbly out of budget! In a way im not a fan of the avons bonnet line, but the other more logical half of me isnt sure if that should matter much and it does seam to be a very nice car from what ive heard. Currently off the road, but as far as i know doenst need another doing to get it an MOT and get it Taxed. Daniel Quote
alistairolsen Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 is the fuel consumption just poor aerodynamics? rolling resistance from bearings and tyres has to be lower than the donor car, weight and hence inertia must be lower, frontal area is lower, so why are they this bad? Christ, dads volvo T5 was 1.4 tonnes and 225bhp and still did 25! Quote

Christ, dads volvo T5 was 1.4 tonnes and 225bhp and still did 25! Westy Aerodynamics aren't that good But alot will depend on how it's driven and what Fueling system is used If it's on Throttle bodies it will be better on Fuel than a Carb'd car It should also drive better, but that's another story... But if MPG is really an issue, Perhaps a Westy/ 7 type car is not the way to go... Quote
dhutch Posted July 16, 2008 Author Posted July 16, 2008 Hi Perksy! - Ive still not bought a car then, as you may be able to tell!! Quote

perksy Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Mine will do 35mpg on a run at a steady'ish pace 2 litre VX on TB's (220 bhp) Less if we start 'pressing on a bit' Quote

TMD-ZETEC Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I have not had mine long but so far about 20 mpg. Mine is a Westfield 2.0 Zetec on Webber 45's To say I am not bothered about mpg is a little flippant but it's not why I bought it. I bought mine as an alternative to motorbikes which I wanted to move on from but still have some fun and feel part of the driving experience (raw and wind in hair plus some good acceleration etc) For me I love it and can live with poor mpg. I will not be doing more than 3000-4000 miles a year in mine anyway as my day to day drive is my van. My van is pretty nippy, for a van, and gives me about 50 mpg. Quote
