Tigger Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I intend to get a PMP (Personal Media Player) to record from my Bullet camera and found a JXD 951 which is available in the UK for £75. It's got an AV in port with widescreen 720x480 @30fps, 4gb memory, 2meg camera and 4" screen so it ticks all the boxes. Just wanted to know if anybody has had any experience with this model PMP and if there are any drawbacks? JXD 951 PMP May even be worth a bulk buy enquiry - make an ideal prezzie for the kids too Tiggs Quote
pistonbroke Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 QUOTE The JXD 951 has a large 4 inch 16:9 wide screen LTPS-TFT high density colour LCD display, providing a true wide screen viewing experience Yea right ! Quote
Tigger Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 Well it's as widescreen as you can get on 4" Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Hi Tig, I have run with this type of thing for 4 years now initially with a Mustek and now with a Mobibox, the change being to get better quality. Looking through the spec it looks very good, but as always the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Things to look out for are:- 1) is it affected by vibration, SD disks are fine 2) Does it actually record at that quality or just playback 3) Can you power it with 12V from the car 4) How many button presses to record (the fewer the better) If you find a decent small 12v microphone then let me know. The reason for the car power supply is that you can't charge during the day and no matter how long they say the battery lasts, you always do stupid things like leave on all day so if powered by the car it still works and you don't miss that fantastic last run Quote
Tigger Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 Nick, Some very valid points there 1) It's deffo SD so no worries there. 2), 3) & 4) Not sure, will give them a call on mondy to confirm. I'll look out for a 12v mic for you too. Thanks for the heads up Tiggs Quote
a4gom Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I've just got the jxd661, haven't tried it yet but its what Barney and Andy from CAT are using and they are happy with it. Just under £40 inc P&P from Honk Kong, via Seller 2shamballa on the bay Quote
Tigger Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 Gom, Just looked at the JXD661 and it looks just as good but it doesn't say whether or not it has AV IN or not? Spec here Tiggs Quote

Chris Elworthy Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 My son has just got an Archos 605 with 40GB - I am not a Gadget man, but it is pretty impressive. It has the best resolution screen I have ever seen. A helmet-cam is available too. Stuff Quote
gee_fin Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Tried a few of these, the issue I had was that they're not DV quality, they're great for straight to YouTube/Internet quality, but if you ever want (or in our case *need*) television quality you're boned. Still, it's a lot of kit for the cash. Most recent purchase in the never ending quest for the best vid cam solution was this thing :- http://www.dixons.co.uk/product.php?sku=009391 High def, solid state (stick a 12gb memory card in there and you've got over an hour of footage). Most impressed so far Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Looks good bin using me IPOD classic for footage and quality is pretty good too Buzz Quote

Most impressed so far ...but taking a hit to a £308 is more expensive that taking a hit to a bullet cam. And does it do AV-in...did check, couldn't see...if not, all you're going to hear is "kskssskktthffhhhhssssskskkkssskssskkshthththhehshshshtthhshshsdhdhdhd" Quote
Crash test dummy Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Tiggs, Pretty sure that Colin has one of these. Mine is the same spec in a different casing and I'm well pleased with it. Crash Quote
