twcullen Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Hi might be interested in a narrow bonnet for a 1989 se, yellow gel but would be happy with carbon. What about postage as I live down south?
Asterix Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I'm guessing your mate has asked for factory permission first. No skin of my nose but wouldn't want the factory to get arsy with owners who've been rebodied (in a Westfield style) without permission - this is reminiscent.
custardtart Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Can't see why they should care, they've stopped making the parts after all! I'll have a body in navy blue, scuttle in navy blue, nose in yellow & bonnet in navy blue if the price is right and the fit good.
Crash test dummy Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Last heard that the factory's position is that they will continue to produce narrow body parts until the moulds become unviable. Provided that the factory are on board there is no doubt that there would be an exploitable market for an independant to step in and take advantage of. I'd be interested in a body kit in red subject to all the usual caveats
TbirdX Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I'd be interested in a bonnet, maybe even a full bodywork set, but again, price is the all important factor. Could your friend not price up something like this, 1 bonnet £1000 10 bonnets £200 each 100 bonnets £100 each 1000 bonnets, £2.50 each to maybe give people an idea of the likely price. Not attaching some idea of the price is going to limit the response you get and cause multiple drop outs when the price isn't as low as some people had hoped!
it_cud Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Hi, I'd be interested in a bonnet , Think mine is a lowline, with the dummy louvres at scuttle end ? Any colour. Cheers, mike.
Martin Keene Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I think you'll find the factory would be unimpressed by this. All narrow body panles are still available to order from the factory. And assuming they stick to their word of keeping them available as long as the moulds support it, there is no reason to believe they won't be around for a while longer. I had a new nose and bonnet in 2006, that came off the same moulds as the originals, and the repalcement were a noticable improvement in quality.
Darkspeed Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I dont think ALL narrow body panels are available - pretty sure that the lowline stuff is all extinct now like the chassis. Whats the issue with a manufacturer making pattern replacement body parts though? its done throughout the automotive industry. Andrew

Andrew ..... and also throughout the kitcar industry, look at the Ferrari, porche, Mini replicas etc. If they can get away with it, don't see why a Westfield replica is not viable? BTW: I don't have a narrow body anymore, just my 2p worth Tiggs
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 This is a very good idea but I feel it still correct to seek permission from the factory in advance to avoid any aggro. If all above board with the factory I may be up for a bonnet, scuttle and nose. My intention for the tub was to make a wide body item fit so that I can use detacheable rear arches

BTW: I don't have a narrow body anymore, just my 2p worth Tiggs am I way off mark then in being reminded of the Westfield vs Caterham litigation whenever I think of this (yes, I know, it's a much smaller scale) or even the fuss over the carbon bodies. Whatever, do it. Just decide whether you want to smooth any potential troubles before or after you've tooled up, admin'd the sales, provided after care, etc... But again, management *has* changed.
Bronco Jr Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I'm less concerned about the Factory's permission, after all thats how they started. Plus a minor difference takes them parts into the unique catagory I would have thought. Look how many versions of the 7 are available throughout the industry. In terms of parts I may well be in the market for a bonnet, and tub for a low line narrow. But like everyone else its cost dependant
hogman Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Would be interested in full body, depends on cost though! YELLOW would have to be the colour - no other comes close :-) Cheers Kevin
