Asterix Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Spec required is: - = up to £50 handset (i.e. excl. the pay as you go bit) = ability to phone home from abroad (EU most likely, beyond that less likely) = man colours (i.e. not pink) = easy to use = (nice to have but not mandatory)...a reasonable camera "pay as you go" "mobile phone" is what I typed in to Google and then pressed "Shopping" but I get loads of results and I have little idea what I'm looking for. Would rather invest more in robustness and less in functionality and gimmicks...what do you recommend? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Something with big buttons, large display and an easy to use guidebook sod it ..................... best get 2 tin cans and a very long piece of string Pete ......... done similar excercise myself a few years back ...................... phone now sits at back of cupboard gathering dust Did similar for Ma's day .......................... phone only switched on when she wants to make a call Old folks and mobiles just don't seem to mix Quote
Asterix Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 Ok, I'll come clean. It's actually SWMBO and sister asking me to find out which one to buy for their dad when he's already expressed an interest (i.e. opening the giftwrap will be less surprising to him than not getting an invite to "Sports Personality of the Year" will be to Max Mosley). So, I know what you mean Mr. S but question still stands... Quote
Mark Stanton Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 In that case you just have to give him 2 empty cans and a piece of string firstly before his proper one Sony ericsson K800i Quote

mark.anson Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I agree re the Nokia 6310. Easy menu to use which is the main thing, decent battery life, etc etc. Mark Quote
Blatman Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Thirded. Get him to join the superior under class with a Nokia 6310i. I've had one for years. No camera (but I have a camera to take pictures ) but makes and receives calls, has bluetooth and infra red, and is the only phone that connects to my lap top (for backing up) without a S*** load of b*******ing around. T.G.G. Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Just bought a Nokia1208 from Tesco,£19.97 including £10 credit. Makes and receives phone calls and texts which is all I want. Black with a colour screen and a torch built in. Quote
alex205 Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I have just bought my dad a Nokia 3110c, I have got a 3109c which is very solid and relaible with good size buttons :-) All depends if he has used one before ie familair with the operating system/menu's, he has had Nokias for years so stuck with them. 3110c ticks all of your boxs and includes bluetooth which can be useful if want in car kit?
