well Ive run an aeroscreen for the last 3 years, only ever driven with a screen once and I found it more blustery. but speaking to other screen users they tell me either doors or perspex deflecters are the answer.

in my "lets get sensible mode" Ive bought a screen wipers and doors for my durabang all will be mounted onto another scuttle for quick change, my question is will I notice any difference in speed with the wind drag off the screen or is it a myth about the 5th brake  :suspect:  :suspect:  :suspect:

???  ???  ???

edited to say where do you touring boys keep your tartan rugs without a boot box

Unless somones done some before and after timed runs it's a subjective answer.

I reckon that the screen is about a third of the frontal area. Mine FELT much quicker with the aero.

Do let us know what you think. I'll bet you go back to areo before long.

Converted to aeroscreen this year - suspect I would have had to spend a lot on the engine to achieve the same result. Performance effect increases the faster you go. - I'll never go back. And yes, 5th brake gone - why put it back?

I have a windscreen and have had it since I got the car last year. I've been struggling with whether or not to go for an aeroscreen.

From my experience (of only driving a windscreened westy) it is very blustery, I did used to put doors on but was forever stopping to fix them back in place!   The pins kept working their way loose.

Since my car was rebodied I dont have the option of doors anymore (I sold them!) but have thought about half doors...

...most sites that advertise aeroscreens say that 7 style cars have the aerodynamics of a brick with a windscreen and most people I have spoken to about this believe that putting an aeroscreen on makes a difference.

When I can be  :arse: 'd to take everything of my scuttle and respray it I think I will go aeroscreen. Face it the windscreen wipers are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard!    :p

going to have aeroscreen mounted on a scuttle for track use if its as bad as people reckon that durabang might struggle to reach 3 figures  :0  :0  and windscreen for road as Im not bothered about driving quick on the roads

as I said  used areo for last 3 years and its not the nicest expeience getting walloped with flies /grit etc plus  I always have to wear a hat as what bit hair I have left goes all tingly after a good blat

Just be thankful you have hair to go tingly!  :D    :D  :p  :D    :D

If you put the screen back you need wind deflectors  and ear plugs IMO -without it's  s too blustery above 50mph.

On the +side  you get a better view without a brain bucket !

I was at a track day at Mallory a few years ago with a mate with 4A-GE engined Locost with a windscreen.

After a couple of sessions with the screen, we took it off to see if there was a difference.  He reported a good 5-7mph gain at the ends of the straights.  I also timed him - very casually with my wristwatch- no stopwatches before anyone starts  :arse:  :p  - and he was at least 5 secs a lap faster without trying, just circulating like normal.

We put the screen back on and the times and speeds went back to where they were.

Yet to try an aeroscreen on the road - although I'm about to.  Tried wind deflectors and they helped a bit but not enough.

Full doors on the sides made a huge difference and I started enjoying the car on the road again.  Still get wind in what hair I've got left.

Have to say I'm struggling with the idea of wearing a helmet on the road - although I can see the sense. Mind you, I rode motorbikes with open and full face helmets for many years without problems with flies or stones.

Wore goggles of course. Did get smacked in the mush by a blackbird once, at rather high speed. Felt like a cricket ball.  Main problem with the open face was rain at speed stinging like needles.  Couldn't slow down though, oh no. Better to grimace like a gargoyle and endure the pain, than slow down  :bangshead:  :D

I have a windscreen with recently added wind deflectors - reasonably comfortable and good wind in yer hair experience but without the flies on yer teeth to go with it :0  :0  :0.  I don't fancy using a helmet all the time either but one did enable Rory to fall asleep on the way home from Stoneleigh.

I'm not bothered about ultimate top speed or cutting fractions off our 0-60 (I don't think) because it seems just fine for what I use it for (commuting).

I was told that an aeroscreen on a Westie is worth a 10mph gain over the same spec. car with windscreen and sidescreens. I know it's a bit accademic, but if acceleration in top is also proportionately affected thats quite a difference.

I went for aeroscreen mainly for reasons of visability. I'm quite tall in the body, and my eyes are level with the top of the windscreen frame and interior mirror, and the sidescreens dont give me any elbow room.

And the aeroscreen looks "racey".

I have an aeroscreen on mine, and it's less blustery than the screen....On a nice day I go out with a beany hat on and a pair of decent wraparound glasses, and this is all I need......With the screen, my hat kept getting blown off, it now doesn't even move :-)...The car feels MUCH quicker.

I would never go back.......

My advice, take your windscreen off, go for a drive with a crash helmet on...this will take you some way to getting the feeling of an aeroscreen.....

Jeff my Zetec car runs a full screen as its my road car. I dont like aero screen on the road as like you said stones and flys in the eye ear or teeth is not fun. On the road a my 210BHP Zetec car is more than fast enough for my needs but on the track its a no brainer to have a screen unless rules stop you going aero.

And why not just use your free bus pass if you want more civilised?
