deller Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Can anyone suggest anywhere to purchased 3.2mm Peel Rivets for fitting the tonneau/hood poppers to the bodywork. I can only find one place that stocks 3.2mm in packs of 500 or so and only need a handful. ... The standard pop rivets are not holding the poppers securely and they are spinning/loose. I cannot get behind the bodywork to hold washers in place either. Really pee'd off as I tried to fit the tonneau last night as I have to drive to the DVLA inspection today at 12pm and it is chucking it down!! Thanks Paul Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Have you tried looking at the 'Odd Packs' at your local Halfords, you know the type of thing, usually a carousel or wall type display full of all sorts of 'odd things' half a dozen to a packet and around a quid Quote
chappers Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 The standard pop rivets are not holding the poppers securely and they are spinning/loose. Obviously 3.2 mm ones would be best, but are you sure that the poppers are not spinning because end of the rivet gun is too big to fit inside the popper? Some people file the end of the rivet gun down to fit, but I just used a nut between the rivet gun and rivet. Tifosi sell 3.2 ones. Worth checking if they are peel ones. 10 for about 45p. Quote

Oh yeah I did that, I ground the end of the rivet gun to a taper so that it sat within the popper, It was 8 years ago, I cant remember everything Quote
deller Posted May 28, 2008 Author Posted May 28, 2008 top tip guys - i'll try a small nut. I'm absolutely soaked but managed to get a nice shiney 08 plate from the DVLA man even though I was missing tons of receipts! Quote
PeP Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 I looked for ages for peel rivets, tried local body shops and friends in the trade, still no luck. Got them from Westfield in the end although they are quite expensive for what they are. Quote
Jeff2 Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Send me your address and I will post you some peel rivits as I have plenty spare. Regards Jeff Quote
deller Posted May 28, 2008 Author Posted May 28, 2008 Thanks for that Jeff. I'll give the small nut a go tomorrow morning and see if that works and if not I'll drop you a line with my address. Much appreciated, thanks! Quote
highwayman Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 A small washer slipped onto the peel rivet behind the body poppers helps, thats what Westfield supplied me with too and it worked a lot better than previous attempts Quote
Blatman Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Peel rivets or not, I always try and use a washer behind a rivet that's in fibreglass... Quote
Bob Green Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Peel rivets or not, I always try and use a washer behind a rivet that's in fibreglass... Thats a good point. A washer will spread the load better than just the mushroom of the rivet in fibreglass. Quote
