Martin Young Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 Hello folks, Sorry about the non-westfield related post but I fugured there is a wealth on knowledge in the club so why not use it. I'll be looking for a new tin top soon as my aging 205 GTi is on its last legs. My budget is approx. £3500. The car needs to be reliable, and comfortable but fun at the same time. Running costs must be sensible so I'm limiting myself to group 13-14 insurance as a maximum Any suggestions? All the Best. Martin. PS Don't worry I'm not selling the westfield to fund this !!!! Quote
JamesD Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 Martin, At that sort of money with that insurance group limit you are looking at the likes of: 306 XSI (or S16) Early Mk3 Golf GTI Mk4 Astra GSI (not many good ones about) Honda Civic VTI 90-94 (rare) My choice would be the 306XSI, lots about so you can get a good price on one, group 11 insurance, still look fresh, comfortable and renouned handling. I have had one myself so can vouch for it....£3500 should find you an N plate Hope this helps JD Quote
studbuckle Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 I would go along with the 306 but make sure you get the new 16v engine not the old 8v oil burner Quote
DavidC Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 Get the S16, I've got one and it's great. . . . . . . . . . OR of course if you're gonna stick to your Grp 13-14 ins limit, get a 16v XSi. They're on Autotrader for about £3500-£4500 at the mo, and they're good motors. DC Quote
Mrs Westy Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 A smart car is the way forwards. Not only will you save ££ on insurance (group 2), tax (600cc engine) and petrol (refer to engine size) but you will get waved at by other smart car owners much like you're used to in the Westie. That and you can't act as taxi for everyone because it's only got 2 seats Quote
Martin Young Posted August 22, 2002 Author Posted August 22, 2002 Thanks for all the suggestions folks, Unfortunately a smart car is out as I need it to be practical for long journeys. I don't fancy touring round scotland in one of those ! All the Best. Martin. Quote
