Phil. S Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 From what i hear the track is very gravelly so expect some pebble dashing Phil This is true, though it probably will not affect an Elise. Se7ens with flimsy lightweight bodywork, however, tend to suffer. I've coated the inside of my rear arches with a rubbery mastic compound this year. My advice would be to make absolutely sure you get there in time to walk the course at leisure; you'll probably learn more that way than watching someone else's video -- especially as the course seems to change slightly each year. However, if you'd like to watch, Del Hodder put some video on this thread. Note though that Del has about 275bhp in 500 kilos on slicks If I can be of any use, feel free to come and introduce yourself -- Chris and I are numbers 48 and 748 (and it's his first MSA sprint too). HTH Thanks for the link David. I'll pop over for a chat if I can find you. I'm no. 69 btw. I was planning to walk the course, though I'm not quite sure when this would be possible. Do people get there mega early (before 7.30) to do this, or will we get a chance after signing on? As you will see my car is hardly track spec. (It still has carpets and radio!) I haven't done anything to it apart from fit a cat replacement pipe and induction, though I'm getting some semi-slicks fitted tomorrow, and I'll increase the camber all round to suit. Quote
davidgh Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Phil Given that it's a longish course (ca. 2 miles IIRC), personally I'd get there as early as possible to walk the course. That way you'll have plenty of time to attend to anything the scrutes have to say about the car, do any last minute fettling and to attend the drivers' briefing. David Quote
Howard Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 The spec of your helmet is okay but what condition is it in? Depending on the scrutineer and what mood he's in, if there are any chips however small in the gel coat he may not give you the MSA sticker. They'll probably still let you run on the day, though, and you can try again at the next event. This happened to me at my first event (Ty Croes). I had a perfectly good helmet the same spec as yours. It had the tiniest mark in the back of the helmet where it had been put down on some gravel. The scrutineer said he thought it was okay but didn't have any stickers so he sent me to the chief scrutineer (the renowned Beardy) who rejected it. I was allowed to run but ended up stumping up another £250 for a new lid before the next event. Quote
Phil. S Posted May 16, 2008 Author Posted May 16, 2008 Mine has a few stone chips from a couple of years driving an aeroscreened Westfield. If they'll let me run I'm not too fussed if I don't get a sticker. I just don't want to have to panic on the day, or have my first sprint spoilt because of something silly like this. Quote
Phil. S Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 Well I had no problem with my helmet today, and had a great time. The timed laps were very frustrating though. On the first one I hesitated for ages at the end of the first straight as I couldn't quite see between which cones I was supposed to go. The second lap was better but ruined by the fact that I couldn't select second gear for the first bend, and with the time I lost trying to select it I ended up 3 second behind the leader down in 7th. Video with excuse here... But I had a great day, and met lots of friendly people, including David who wandered over to say hello in the morning. Your Striker looked very fast. How'd you do? Quote
davidgh Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Hi Phil Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself -- looked that way on the video. Thanks for asking: I had a mixed day. Got the C4 class pot (91.7s on first (and only) timed run) , but then the engine ingested something which looks as though it'll be expensive -- and worse still, just before the sublime MIRA and Pembrey weekends All best David Quote
pete g Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 phil sorry i did not come over and say hello. i was going to but got side tracked .you know what its like. was a good day weather was kind to us. shame the track dirt was not so kind to the rear arches. may see you at another event regards pete Quote
Phil. S Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 I'll be at Lydden next month, so hopefully see you there. Quote
