Phil. S Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I'm entering my first sprint on Sunday (at Bentwaters) and just making a few final checks. The MSA book says that helmets with mark "6658 - 85 type A " are ok. Mine says "6658 1985 Type A". Is the 85 in the book just an abbreviation for 1985 (that I have), or are these different spec helmets? Basically, will my 6658 1985 Type A helmet be ok? Cheers Phil Quote
greenandmean Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Shouldn't be a problem with helmet although you will need a MSA sticker putting on by the scruitineer, think they are about £1-50. Good luck and ENJOY Quote
custardtart Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Well done Phil - are you in the Elise? My first Sprint will be at Pembrey, maybe see you there? Quote
cidersurfer Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Scrutineers were saying on Sunday that this spec may become defunct late 2009. Anyone know any more? Quote
Phil. S Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 Well done Phil - are you in the Elise? My first Sprint will be at Pembrey, maybe see you there? Hi Matt, Yes, I'll be in the Elise. (Sold the Westfield last Summer ) I've entered the Lotus On Track Sprint series. This year is just a trial run to see if there's enough interest, so only five meets. Bentwaters, Lydden, North Weald, Cadwell Park and Abbeville. No Pembrey I'm afraid. The regs for teh LOT series are pretty lax this year, so my little 155bhp Elise will be up against an R300, and Elises such as the S190 and a supercharged Exige. But I'm hoping to be able to come somewhere in the middle. Next year, we'll divide the cars into different groups. I've got a load of bits to go on the car, but the only thing I'll have a chance to fit before Sunday will be the Hurricane induction, A048s and a decat pipe. Really looking forward to this though, and plan on doing all of the sprints both this year and next. Quote

Good luck and ENJOY Cheers! Getting to the stage now where I'm worrying lots of silly things, as I don't want to be running around trying to borrow a helmet on my first sprint. I just want to be able to relax between runs. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 QUOTE Scrutineers were saying on Sunday that this spec may become defunct late 2009. Anyone know any more? There might be a few MSA changes for 2009 some good some perhaps not so good Keep an eye on info released in the Motorsports Now magazine issued by MSA to licence holders Quote
conibear Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Suspect you find that that the A will be replaced with F/A. I.E. Fire Especially in an Tin top like an Elise Quote
a4gom Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Phil your helmet will be fine for this event, hope you have a good day and keep it on the black stuff! As mark said the proposals for changes to helmet standards were in the motorsports now mag sent out to all licence holders and registered marshalls / officails. From memory the proposed regulations are to be implemented in Jan 2010 and the only acceptable BS standard helmet will be BS 6658 Type A/FR Other acceptable standards will be; FIA 8860-2004, SNELL SA2005, SFI Foundation 31.1A, SFI Foundation 31.2A, SNELL SA2000 may be ok but it is proposed this will be withdrawn as well. These are only proposals but I'd be surprised if they don't get ratified. Quote
Blatman Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Snell standards are usually adopted for 10 years, with a new standard every 5 from Snell, hence SA2000 runs out in '10, with SA2005 running out in '15 Quote
Phil. S Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 Thanks for the reassurances. BTW, I don't suppose anyone has an in car video of Bentwaters sprint circuit they could post? Quote

davidgh Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 From what i hear the track is very gravelly so expect some pebble dashing Phil This is true, though it probably will not affect an Elise. Se7ens with flimsy lightweight bodywork, however, tend to suffer. I've coated the inside of my rear arches with a rubbery mastic compound this year. My advice would be to make absolutely sure you get there in time to walk the course at leisure; you'll probably learn more that way than watching someone else's video -- especially as the course seems to change slightly each year. However, if you'd like to watch, Del Hodder put some video on this thread. Note though that Del has about 275bhp in 500 kilos on slicks If I can be of any use, feel free to come and introduce yourself -- Chris and I are numbers 48 and 748 (and it's his first MSA sprint too). HTH Quote
