chrisinoxford Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 Paul thanks for that decisions decisions.... Jeff, i know how the engines go together, well i know how they come apart hehehe. Seriously its just a little project to windle away the winter evenings and have a play really, i want to take the engine over 200 horses but dont want to go to the Nth degree with costs and parts not required. I am tracking the car so will do some proper races so yes this engine will get some proper use at some point an yes i will bolt on a decent exhaust system when its in. So bottom line how do i take my car thats somewhere in the 170BHP range (getting rolling road next week) to over 200BHP with only the absolute necessery items? Its a standard engine and head with twin webber 45's at the moment and a westy exhaust..... Cheers chris Quote
cidersurfer Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I believe a set of cams, ARP rod bolts, a decent exhaust and a RR session will get 200bhp for you. Might need to pocket pistons depending on cams? Quote

Bean Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I'm sure someone on his forum is getting just over 200bhp, using a pair of Q42H (QED cams), vernier pulleys, weber 45's and a decent exhaust system. Quote

If "someone" is, he's being misled, although I did claim that for mine a few days agos 'cos I was being lazy By coincidence, had my QED Q42 cammed DTH injected Vx on the rollers on Saturday. They were calibrated a few days ago and tested on a BMW MINI which read within a single HP of what the book said it should. So accuracy isn't really an issue... Two runs, one at 186bhp, one at 188bhp. Soft cut at 6800rpm with power still rising, but slowly. Consensus was it'd make a few more if we fiddled with the rev limiter, but not 200. Rev limiter is staying where it is... Quote
cidersurfer Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I was getting 208 with QED 420s (mechanical profile cams), vernier pulleys, no other head work, ARP rod boltss to get the revs up a bit, a simpson exhaust and GSXR 750 TBs (running off DAT ECU) 2 years ago. So shouldn't be that different keeping the 45s as long as they are set up right. As a matter of fact the cams are still in an oil rag in the garage! Quote
Blatman Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 The H in 42H denotes hydraulic profile. With solid lifters more is possible... Quote
pete g Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 i got 196bhp with 42 h cams but mine reved higher than yours run out of duty cycle on injectors ,so may of got more if i had upped the fuel pressure Quote

If "someone" is, he's being misled, although I did claim that for mine a few days agos 'cos I was being lazy Err, mine gave 202bhp @ flywheel on Northampton Motorsports rollers (204bhp without the airbox ) The only thing I can see thats been done to it is it has had the caned off it for 160,000 miles - must be good for friction reducing Can't vouch for the accuracy of the rollers though However, if you are looking at upgrading your VX car, depending on your current spec my *serious* money would go (and did go) on DTH or Taper throttle bodies, a decent exhaust system, and a dry sump kit, with a gearbox full of ratio's that can make use of the power. IMHO, once all them boxes are ticked, any power increases made to the engine are even more worthwhile, cheaper to get retuned, and is likely to last longer Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I know that. There's no 'H' in my 460Vs Yep and its not 208bhp any more is it mate. Quote

I wonder how restrictive it is now, I think I bought it off Pete G or Stu999? I have a terrible memory Quote
