Vernier pulley shoe cup bolts

Recommended Posts

Dear all, I have tried to find my original post re. my fuckup at Croft but to no avail.

The reason that I am posting this is because in that post, I stated that we couldn't find traces of loctite on any of the bolts that were no longer in the exhaust vernier pulley after my trip to the gravel trap.

Well, I have been reliably informed by an expert in VX engines running vernier pulleys that the kind of bolts employed (with the shoe or locking cup as used) do *NOT* need loctite applied.

Therefore the loss of bolts was more likely due to gravel-to-belt ingestion and was *not* due to any fallibility in the building of the engine.

I'm certainly no expert Pete, but how could the bolts just come out? I did see the ones you recovered from the engine bay, totally undamaged weren't they?

Think i'd be lock tighting them, or at least doing very regular spanner checks.

If this is what a qualified person says, i'm sure it's correct. Good luck with it mate, you've not had much as yet
