Advice on new car

May be getting Lynne a new car. She would like a small 4 door hatch Renault Clio size.

My thoughts are to stick to Renault or Peugeot as we're in France.

Will be petrol as I'll have to service it and I HATE diesels.

So, anyone any experience, needs to be reliable and.... well that's it really.

Daughter has got the 1500cc Diesel Clio, I know it's a Renault and a Diesel.... but she loves it, :t-up:  :t-up:

When we flew out last October to Dinard we hired a little Citroen C1, NO GUTS and built out of alcan foil!

Knowing how some of the French drive....How about a Landrover! :p  :p  :p

Isn't it compulsory in France to by a diesel Twingo?

:D  :D  :p

When my son was on holiday in Corfu he drove a Twingo and reckoned it was fun. :D

Basic, but fun.

HM may want a few creature comforts tho.

just been away and had a citroen  c3 1100  for a week, it was aweful as all french cars are but roomy for 5 of us and well specced , was terrible  on petrol though and with the aircon turned on struggled to get up hills  :0  :0

Westfield?

Someone had to...

Small and french doesn't give you that much choice, but the New twingos look cool...  Haven't driven one tho...

I think the twingo is too small and poofy for her.

I was thinking of a Clio Sport.

But then she reminded me that I had the Elise  :D

Kangoo ........ roomy enough for "supplies"  :D  ;)  :D

and I'd go for diesel especially with the price of it bing so much lower en france  :D  :D

2nd vote for a kangoo/berlingo/doblo thing. You'll wonder how you managed without it.

Or a tin snail, seeing as you're en france :)

Citroen CX and cruise around in real style . . .  they don't make 'em like they used to  :D

I had a Citroen XM and will never have another Hydro suspended car - too expensive!

She won't be doing a lot of miles so diesel for economy isn't important (it's not that cheap over here. Petrol is 1.38 per litre. £=1.25 ish)

I'de love a deux chevaux, I think they're one of the worlds most fun cars. Not sure HM would agree.

We have a Peugeot 806 at the moment. I had to replace the head gasket so took the engine assy. out and replaced the cam belt, fan belt and clutch while I was at it. The things 12 years old and has over 180,000 kms on the clock. No wear in the bores at all. It feels solid and like it will last forever. On that experience I may well go for another Peugeot, only a lot newer.

I was a Renault dealer some years ago and whilst I like some of them I wasn't impressed with the build qaulity in those days. I was running 18 turbo's. The first ate the turbo and the second lunched the small ends. Other than that they were OK.

Bully her into it. When in Rome and all that. Or one of these or similar.

it going to sound horrid but i hired a car on holiday last year that was a little cracker

i've never told anyone this so keep it under your hat

it had room enough for 4 adults and ice cold air con 36 (where's the degree button on the key board .?)

it drove better than everything small the Mrs has had in the past as well

it was a fiat panda :suspect:  :suspect:
