StuartMackay Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Yeah circuit is the same so I am told, it was at the exit of one of the complexes...dont know if he had a mighty tank slapper and hit the grass sideways, he wasnt around to ask, he was whisked off the Lynn hospital by the Blood Wagon. Quote
samcooke Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Sounds as though he was OK though. I've just been out and loaded it on to the trailer in the peeing rain and have realised all the confirmation emails are at work 20 miles away Anything other than my driving license that I need to take? Quote
dabar Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Sam, You just need your photo id,and to help them find you on the list your driver number is 3 Now where did i put that gaffa tape??? Graham. Quote
ChrisF Posted April 12, 2008 Author Posted April 12, 2008 All loaded and ready to go Liam, Mark J, Sparky and I will all be at Downham 7am.....ish The weather looks okay in the morning but pants in the afternoon....fingers crossed we get a dry day Quote
cng1 Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 The midget chap is fine but I suspect that he may end up fitting a roll bar at some point in future! Chatting to the guys who were following him he just had an almighty tank slapper and being a softly sprung live axle it gripped at just the wrong moment and over he went. The circuit is the same as last year but narrows somewhat more as you pass the pit exit and there are now cones on the outside of the long corner onto the straight which gives you slightly less width to hoon sideways onto. Other than that it's near as damn it the same. L16COS shall unfortunately not be coming out to play again tomorrow as there is what appears to be the ball-race cage from one of the camshaft bearings sitting in pieces in the bottom of the sump. Had the sump gasket not gone I'd probably not have known something was wrong until something went bang! Quote
markcoopers Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 A great day, despite the weathers best cold and wet efforts. Morning started very cold with precious grip, but by the time we were in Downham market it was looking better. Track was OK, the massive straight is just that, massive, both in length and width. OK it's for big planes, but I did feel somewhat lost out there with no reference points so to speak. Alas 4 gears also served as a handicap, reaching v-max and the limiter way before 1/2way down, so nothing for it but to back out of it curise down. I bit of a disapointment if i'm honest, as otherwise the car was fantastic, catching and out accelerating all manor of exotica....NSX, gallardo.....well untill I reached 100mph in which case I never saw them again. The white painted zebra crossing covering a sharp Right/left combo was a nice touch, grip/slide/grip/slide, even better in the wet. However they raised over £20,000 for charity over the wekend, and that in it'self has got to be worth the soaking and entry fee. Sorry to hear that we sent 2 more X-flows to the garage in the sky, and the other running repairs were the norm of Westfields and trackdays I believe, so not too bad. Still I will never tire at laughing at the memory of Liam bubblle wrapping his car up for protection, or that of his graceful exiting method, sheer class. Drive home was uneventful, just wet, arriving home moist to the skin. Much like Le mans last year. And just for Neil, Fuel was fine, even if I did poor it all onto the floor and not in the tank. scruffythefirst Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Sounds like fun chaps. I will definately make next years! I've just had 6 hours sleep after a manic 4 days ending in 24 hour workday so would much rather have been there. Quote
SparkyB Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Seems my choice to leave early was wise, aside from a small shower at Downham market the drive home was dry for me, there was some very evil clouds in distance I saw though. Have to say I really enjoyed getting the car out on 'track'. The first session was a little buy for my liking, but 2nd session was awesome. Got some quite good footage from 2nd session. Cheers to Chaz for acting as support car for the day and all involved for a very nice day Mark B Quote
chazpowerslide Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I got a pic Sparky. You know, all the ungergrowth clinging to the bottom of your car............................... A good day. The score, 1 x Pinto with a snapped alternator braket on the first session, lived to run into the 4rd/4th session. 2 x Crossflows down in the second session (1 minor blow up and one dropped valve ) Both took an early bath...................... 2 x engine bays covered in oil All good fun.............. Chaz. Quote
samcooke Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 + 2 x loose jub clips + at least 1 set of rears now on ths canvas... + 1 NSX spinning out in a cloud of smoke trying to keep up with a 1 litre bath tub + 1 Gallardo looking disappointingly lardy through the corners (and getting in the way) Quote
red hot Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 good to see you all on Sunday....thanks for the company.... my dear son & i were like a couple of drowned rats when we got home...tried to beat the rain but not quick enough...still i didnt break down Nigel Quote
flash1 Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 wife and I enjoyed the day, had a couple of spins, was not the fastest out there but was not the slowest either, thought i would leave early to miss the rain but 20 mins down the road it through it down, thought it would'nt get any worse but it only b****y well hailed stoned on me, they hurt, then to top it all off just to make my first time out in the car in the rain some t**t through an egg which hit the bonnet and windscreen, lucky i was not a second quicker or it would have hit me in the face. Apart from all that thanks to all for the advice on my first track day in the Westfield. Quote
chazpowerslide Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Well, Dick has holey pistons on his Xflow, a big hole in number 3 and a little hole in number 2, kinda explains the smoke and missfire. I rekon it's down to lean fuel mixture and/or over advanced timing (by the look of the melted electrodes on the spark plugs) Dick says it's my fault for lending him some sticky rubber for the day that allowed him to "exploit" the motor a bit more. Chaz. Quote
samcooke Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Chris has a broken follower on his xflow. 200 miles after an engine rebuild... Quote
