Blatman Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 I've just got back from Peter Baldwins rolling road, who I can thorughly reccomend, BTW. Yours truly was handed the responsibility of piloting the car during the runs, leaving Peter free to concentrate on the job in hand. To cut a long story short, I left with 248bhp at 6500rpm, with power still climbing with revs. We had to abort the final power run, as the thermostat gasket sprung a leak It was noted earlier that power was tailing off at around 7000rpm. So, with a little more time, and a few more revs, I reckon we'd have cracked 250bhp, and we didn't even touch the cam verniers!! I have no idea how accurate Petes rollers actually are, but he was spot on with all of his notes and observations regarding his expectations of what we would be seeing. I left a very happy man, confident that I can back up my claim of having at least 240bhp (I'm NOT one for exaggerating power claims, unless I've had a few.......). Chuffed? Oh yes Only trouble is, now I haven't got the excuse of not having enough power. I guess I'm gonna find out just how crap I really am.................... Roll on Curborough I'd also like to take this chance to publicly thank Dave Andrews for his expertise, prompt replys to my inane, e-mailed questions, and his continued patience. Thanks Dave. Quote

Mrs Westy Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 I'd also like to take this chance to publicly thank Dave Andrews for his expertise, prompt replys to my inane, e-mailed questions, Does this mean that you are not really the font of all knowledge but actually get all your answers from Dave Quote
7 Heaven Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 I think a great many of us get our answers from DVA's fountain of knowledge John Quote
Blatman Posted August 13, 2002 Author Posted August 13, 2002 Font of all knowledge........hardly I have owned a Westfield (or two) continuously for over 13 years, and I do most of the work on it/them myself. In that time, I've come across all manner of problems, hence why I have an opinion on almost everything..........Also, I like to offer up opinions to chivvy the debates along, hoping that I will encourage some-one with an alternative opinion to contribute, so that we can examine alternatives, and gain knowledge by sharing opinions/experiences. I've also been subscribed to Blatchat for over 4 years, and lots of the knowledge gained on there is relevant to Westfield ownership, and like this boardroom, I have read EVERY posting that's ever been made on Blatchat in that time. Sad, I know, BUT, I have benefitted from it, big time. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Font of all knowledge........hardly Like myself young Blatters - methinks the term is Fontly shaped When are you going slicks and aero's - give Mr D a challenge Quote
Blatman Posted August 13, 2002 Author Posted August 13, 2002 I'm hoping I won't be needing slicks and aero's to challenge Steve, especially if he's using his Cateringvan this weekend Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Cateringvan gone bye byes long time ago He's back amongst real folks now - should be good next weekend at Curb when he takes his tango Westfield and mixes it with all the other cateringvans Quote
Adrian Elkin Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Excellent stuff Blatters. Must get my "project" up and running so I can come and chase you on the sprint championship next year. Just a quick word about Peter Baldwin's RR. I used to use it many a time myself when he was based at Marshalls of Cambridge, right near the city centre. By the sounds of things he's moved. He's a great guy, and whole heartedly recommend him if you need a RR tune and your in the area. I loved the way he used to adjust the dizzy on my car with the engine at 6k to get the best timing at full chat! Very brave!!! BUT, his power readings were always extremely generous, up to 10% on top of the true figure I'd say, as everyone who I sent there came back amazed at what there car was producing. This may have changed at the new venue and is a good deal more accurate but beware, an accuate RR is difficult to find from my experience. IMHO, if your car's been set up, is running well, and is quick, don't be too concerned with finding the exact bhp figure. We don't want to get the same BS match that we have constantly from a certain other individual on that 'other' site! Just enjoy the #### thing! Quote
ian crocker Posted August 14, 2002 Posted August 14, 2002 Emerald in Brixton seem to be quite accurate, probably a tad optimisitic but not too much. They are also very repeatable and there is a wealth of data on the net from other cars on those rollers to compare to. Ian Quote
