moomin Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 It's the MK GT1 isn't it? Have a search for info on those - might turn up some more. moomin Quote
gixermark Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 thats it - obviously revised... but that was the basics of it.... Quote
MK11 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 I quite fancied one of these with something different in the back, like an Audi V8 mated to a TDi transaxle, ended up with the XI instead. Maybe next time. The only things I disliked were the original front styling, and it originally had side mounted radiators that I thought were probably not up to the job. I did go out for a spin in the original MK demonstrator round Donnington at the Kit Car show and I was disappointed to find that the Caterham R300 in front of us ran away and hid, I expected to at least give it a run for its money. There are a couple of videos of a GTR on Youtube that look somewhat faster. Quote
Crazy Eddie Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Andy Bates would probably give you an honest opinion he had one down at his workshop last time I was there Quote
gixermark Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 yea - been chatting to andy about his eddie.... got me thinking alright !! Quote
jeff oakley Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 From what I read at the time, the origanal MKGT1 was running a bog standard Audi 100 lump and never really got the development in needed as it had some basic handling flaws. Others made them good but as a package it wasn't right. He then did the next car wider and the problems were ironed out and then promptly sold it to Spire. The guy there has worked on it further and for the money according to Total kitcar magazine it is pretty good now. Personally I preferred the GT1 looks as the Spire is a bit slab sided and angular, but it is different. Quote
evo-mark Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 i started to do a bit research on the MK GT1 as it looked tempting as a track car but i stopped my search early when i found out you can't get body spares for it any where (no body supply's them) one track day knock and it's game over Quote
gixermark Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 the spares and general bodywork situation is fine for the GTR mark.. in fact you can now get light 'race' body work as well as heavier road stuff... I'm certainly tempted as it woudl suit our local race series well... and could potentially give the radicals a run at a fraction of the cost... Quote
Al Yupright Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Just cos it looks like a radical doesn't mean it'll give them a run! See if you can some laptimes for the two cars on the same circuit to compare? Quote
gixermark Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 agree - i would test it back to back on the same track/day as my own car anyway to get a feel for the level of performance gap... looking at lap times from different drivers etc is almost pointless.. Quote
