Grunty Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 I did like the idea of the SDV Maxda & was surprised at how it dropped in price so much. Lucky for anyone buying but not selling I guess it was down to the 'kudos' of having a higher powered tuneable(?) engine & the fact they aren't very common that dropped the price. I'm getting some proper figures & advice today so I'll be in a better position to make a call after that. Until then I'll just have to listen to the little voices in my head Head = wasted money better spent on family things. Heart = do it now or its another 10 year wait Head = you're approaching a mid-life crisis Heart = as least its with a Westie not her from No 37! Head = if it goes wrong how do you pay for it? Heart = is it illegal to ebay a small child? Head = your a grown man stop daydreaming and concentrate on your work. Then maybe you'd get a proper job with more money and be able to afford the damned thing. Heart = you're a real pain in the why don't you go f*#.................. Oh the voices when will they stop, when will they stop!! Quote

samcooke Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Wot bob said. Can't take it with you. Only live once. Better to regret something you have done than something you haven't. Pick your cliche, they're all true. Mind you, her at no. 37 is proper filth from what I heard, maybe have a go at that too. Quote
Westy1700 Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 That 2006 £7K Mazda based Westy that sold recently would have been perfect for this plan. The depreciation on that car was shocking ... which does point you in the right direction Rory's Dad My first xflow cost £6k to build, ran for 12 years and then sold for £5,500....£50 a year in depreciation and no major breakdowns at all. compare that to my new E class merc at £45k new with 6000 miles on it after just 4 months and paying £31k.....its lost the price of a decent (probably the best you can find) westy in 4 months... so all in all they are pretty cheap to run and nothing puts a smile on the face quite like it. your problem is that a year in you will not want to sell it to pay for the decorations in the enlarged abode!!! Grunty Posted April 14, 2008 Author Posted April 14, 2008 Thanks for the geeing up. Well its good and bad news in getting the car. Good news is I'm going for it with the promise of shutting up about wanting one with SWMBO. Bad news is its not until Jan next year when our finances are better sorted, and probably still for just a year. By then a SDV might have depreciated to about £3000 & I could run it for a bit longer!! (only kidding if you've got one!). Until then I shall continue to be entertained by everyones knowledge of all things Westfield and those tremendous norks on Mr. Ashcrofts avatar! Quote

Sir Greg Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 ....................and those tremendous norks on Mr. Ashcrofts avatar! Who I do believe belong to her at number 37.. FWIW - I was in the same boat before we got the Westy. We decided to release a bit of equity and started looking at how best to enjoy it. I'd wanted a 7 since driving a Cateringvan at a Palmersport day many years before and it was either that or a big f**k off bike. Debs said she'd rather have me around for a few more years so the bike idea was kicked into touch. I looked around decided it was a well built Westy that I wanted and after about six months of searching found what I thought was the ideal car....... a little bit over budget but with not a lot needed to make it a cracker. Anyway...... a further £6000 later and it is a cracker..... and it only needs probably another £6000 to get it to perfection....... As has been said many times ...... if it ain't going to financially ruin you then just go for it... Quote

Asterix Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Last year I spent approximately £13.65 inc VAT for a full SS season, and in case I get a SAO audit, I have all the receipts to disprove it. Quote
