The only other Westy I've actually driven was the red 1800 SpeedSport demonstrator at the factory a few weeks ago, with its basic 1800cc Zetec engine. Jon Moss gave me a ride in the SEiGHT demo car too.

Compared to that car, the car I'm getting seems to have a bit more torque (not unexpected given the larger engine), and revs a bit more smoothly - I found the Zetec a bit rough and unwilling to rev as far as the power band. The VX engine/exhaust gives no pops or bangs on the overrun either, which may or may not be to your taste ;)

Obviously it doesn't have half the pulling power of a SEiGHT, but by all accounts it's a highly tuneable lump, and I'll be taking it into a specialist for a health check (and maybe some fettling too!;) straight away.

It also has the new, quieter style underslung exhausts, which I suspect will make long journeys that bit less tiring (my commute to work is 20 miles on motorways), but the overall sound is remarkably similar to that of the Zetec SpeedSport and it's still far from quiet!

The current owner is in the RAF and lives at an airbase, so I was able to take it for a test drive out on the airfield - top stuff! The handling was generally pretty good, although the combination of pouring rain (A***!;), slippy concrete, no-name tyres and lack of a LSD made for a worrying lack of grip. Even so, straight line traction was OK, cornering was limited mainly by my own ineptitude, and only braking left anything to be desired, the wheels only too happy to lock up. I guess I've been spoiled by the Scooby's ABS :)

Here's hoping it's dry a week on Sat!

Andy.

Glad to hear your good news Andy! I would imagine the next two weeks wait will be the longest of your life!

My garage is currently full with the new Kitchen the missus has brought! Once that's all in & she's happy I'll be off to fill it up with far more appropriate things - like an SEiGHT!

If any one hears of anything drop me a line - THANX!

*sigh*

Isn't it just always the way? I think I should stop reading this thread now.  ???

Still, I've saved a couple of grand (which will inevitably go on engine tuning, but that would have happened anyway!;), and I don't want to put off picking up the car any longer...

Now, when's the weather going to pick up?  :p

A.

ps. Matt: I think the weeks before I picked up the Scooby went a bit slower. Just  ;)

I like this thread but can you fit an aluminium Chevrolet LS1 and 6 speed box into a Westfield chassis as a retrofit application? Is the SEIGHT chassis a special chassis with wider dimensions? Did you know that an LS1 and 6 speed is similar to the Rover V8 in overall dimensions. I have LS1 parts for sale and in transit and am looking to sell especially to the race/kit car and aftermarket fraternity. Info is on my website Chevroletls1.com or boostperformance.co.uk. Mike. Ps I build turbocharged Zetec 1800's also.
