Sam-Kit car dreams Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Just heard it on BBC news, no other details however. Looks like the "Anti Mclaren" brigade are at it already !! Info here on ITV F1 Quote
Pembroke Pat Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 There were plenty of other drivers doing the same and causing Heidfeld and Firkin lonso to be hindered. Mind you I do think that the saving fuel thing after ones fast lap is dangerous. If other cars were penalised then I would say far enough Quote
Pilot Pete Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 There were plenty of other drivers doing the same and causing Heidfeld and Firkin lonso to be hindered. Mind you I do think that the saving fuel thing after ones fast lap is dangerous. If other cars were penalised then I would say far enough Yes, but the Macca's were on the racing line. I was outraged when I read this at first, but to be honest, looks like a fair cop. Quote
CedricTheBrave Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 agreed it did look dangerous, and a little silly to be on the race line. the pit crew should have told them someone was on a flyer coming up behind them Quote
jeff oakley Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 It may work out okay for them, if it is a wet race there will be some accidents in the first corner and they may well be out of the thick of it. What I would really like is both of them to charge through the field to the front. Sepang has more overtaking than most so might be a good race. What is an issue is the ludicros having to qualify with the fuel you start the race with. If they just filled every car to the brime before the start and let them qualify light it would work out better as there would be no advantage saving fuel after the hot lap. Quote
matthew h Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 agreed it did look dangerous, and a little silly to be on the race line. the pit crew should have told them someone was on a flyer coming up behind them but it would have been worse for them to cross the track as he comes blatting round the corner! Even the biggest ferrari guy I know (ie, owns 7 of them) thinks this is a joke Quote
Martin Keene Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Ferrari Internal Affairs (FIA) strike again... FWIW, I reckon the McLarens are choke full of fuel already. Quote
FW500 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Someone more cynical would say McLaren were sitting on the racing line in some sort of desperate attempt to block their competition. Obviously a team with as much (cough) integrity as McLaren wouldn't stoop quite so low as that huh? Quote
peterg Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 They scarcely needed to try and block the likes of Alonso and Heidfeld neither of whom were getting near enough to threaten their grid position... Nice to see the anti-McLaren lobby using every opportunity I read earlier last week that Ferrari were blaming the McLaren ECU for their enhine failures... until it was revealed that they broke valves which couldn't be attributed to an ECU glitch Quote
FW500 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 I see it as quite the opposite - the thread was started and insinuated that this incident was some sort of Anti-McLaren conspiracy once again. It seems whenever something goes wrong for McLaren it's because the 'powers that be' are working against them. The fact was they were hogging the racing line while others were trying to qualify - people need to get a grip really - there's no Anti-McLaren conspiracy. Quote
Sam-Kit car dreams Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 I see it as quite the opposite - the thread was started and insinuated that this incident was some sort of Anti-McLaren conspiracy once again. I didnt start the thread as an insinuation of an "Anti Mclaren" conspracy. I posted the comment about that without knowing the full facts !! I still believe, however, that the FIA, Bernie, Moseley and any of the other "F1 Mafia" will do all they can to prevent Mclaren from winning the championship this season. If they start running away with it, which i doubt they will anyway, there will be all sorts of stuff coming out of the woodwork again. Quote
pistonbroke Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Any one would think you want McLaren to win the championship Quote
blankczechbook Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 in this event nothing went too wrong - but it is a forewarning of a disaster.... to keep off the racing line the cars will have to cross the track - in fact cross the track several times to get back to the pit - all teams will have to do this - not just the Woking boys, - and if they do this at very low speeds in front of those on hot laps then any idiot can see what could happen. I really really hope this is changed/banned fast. i thought there used to be a 7% qualifing difference allowed between fastest and slowest cars in order to race - to avoid slow cars on the track... so what is this new introduction doing in the sport??
