Asterix Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Madame's only just become PC literate and has learnt the golden rule of saving regularly. She has been working on a *very* important document that for days now, regularly saving it. From what I can piece together is seems that either she or the O/S has deleted all the main text (not headers and footers) by mistake and then saved the file. I need to recover that overwritten text. Track changes was not on as far as I can tell. Having been googling for about an hour now, trying various programs, but nothing seems to work. Have looked at several .tmp files, but none contain the text I need. Anyone recovered from a similar position? Beer reward available to those that can help. Thanks in advance. Quote
BuGsBuNnY Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Other than the .tmp files, not much else you can do imho...If it has been saved over, very unlikely that you can get it back... I assumed that you closed the file and reopened it, hence cannot click "undo"? Quote
BuGsBuNnY Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Not much else you can do :-(... I know its not solution to your current problem, but always open an existing file, e.g. filename.doc , save as filenameV2.doc etc. This was there is always the previous version. Or, as you mentioned, use the track changes option. Personally I like the crude version control on my documents, track changes is useful at work. Quote
Asterix Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 agreed. After much more investigation and debate, have given up and consoled ourselves with Shiraz and nuts...bang goes the diet. Quote
