Bananaman Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Just woundering if anybody uses there hoods, assuming they have one. I've got one but it has never been fitted as i hear they are........... not very good! What do you think? Coast to coast this weekend with no hood & the missus Quote
stu999 Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Had a hood when I bought the car. After using it a couple of times, it now resides in the garage. Just use a tonneau cover when the car is parked up, and the sidescreens when the weather is really s*itty. Couldnt understand the logic behind getting almost as wet with the hood up, but with the added enjoyment of not being able to see where you're going because the screen had steamed up. Quote
Westfieldman Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 What hood? Aero screen the best way Paul. Quote
JonnyBoy Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 used it once, it seems to take away most of your spacial awareness. It keeps the weather out, but i dont feel particularly safe with it on. It always goes on when i park the car in carparks etc. 'cos of the fantastic security it provides!! Quote
studbuckle Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Got one, put it on once, never again As I told Bananaman yesterday, I get more wet from the water coming under the windscreen than over/around it when it rains Quote
Stuart C Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Whats a hood? Is it one of those things that take 20 mins to put up . Then it takes you 20mins to get in ton the car. Then you cant see when your driving because its steams up and you get as wet as without one because you sweat so much. been there done it naaaaaa!!! mind you its soon to be whats a westie. Its sold. Difference is I dont have any!!! bad memories. Ill be back . Building one for the race series Stuart C Quote
Stueyboy Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 My hood, or as I would put it, exhaust amplifier has been on twice to my knowledge. Once when I picked the car up from factory and once when I fancied contorting myself like the gangly freak that I am. I have never felt the need to wear ear plugs in my westie except when the roof was on. Stu Quote
damianc Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Fit an aeroscreen Sell the hood Be one with nature Quote
will maskell Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 hood my A***!! if you want to keep dry then buy yourself a sardine tin cause theres loads more room in one of them than a westfield with a hood!!!! Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted August 14, 2002 Posted August 14, 2002 Mines been up once this year, in the car park at the Stafford show during the monsoon season Quote
samcooke Posted August 14, 2002 Posted August 14, 2002 I have found putting the hood up on your Peter Storm does the dryness trick a treat, pull the little cords tight so you look like a snork and you're away. Although I do like the way my (car) hood rubs the top of my head at standstill but gives six inches headroom at 40mph (just before coming off). Quote
Ian Podmore Posted August 14, 2002 Posted August 14, 2002 Rarely use my hood, but it has worked wonders on long journeys and when touring. You can even feel a slight draft of heat from the heater with the hood up. Find that gallons of water attempt to come in under the sidescreens. Solved that problem by wearing my waterproof when the hood was up Best exhaust amplification known to man after a long tunnel that is. Also the fastest warming oven in the World in the summer when the rain stops and the sun comes out. Quote
