Guest Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 One thing to watch out for; Travelling to Dublin recently on Lyingair - from Liverpool. Me and me mate Trevor have a laid back breakfast and decide to wander over to the gate with 35 minutes to go before boarding (as it says on the boarding pass - "you must be at the gate at least 30 minutes before your flight leaves"). When we get there - they won't let us on. Plane is still on station - phone calls to and fro - but Captian decided that the flight was ready to roll - less Trevor and me - so he left 18 minutes early. We only had hand luggage. Went to the desk at check-in (and arrived back a the other side of the airport before the scheduled departure time!) and the bemused girly says "basically - its tough - but it is the Captains decision. No refunds - no more flights available that day. So we coughed up and flew BA out of Manchster. The call it "No Frills" - they mean it. Quote
Steve Williams Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Edden, If they did that it would be a breach of contract. The terms and conditions of the contract are nothing to do with the Captain, though it is his decision as to when to depart. For whatever reason his decision placed RyanAir in breach of their contract. Even if you only paid pennies for your ticket, a contractual relationship has been established. By arriving at the departure gate before the time stated in the contract you have fulfilled your contractual obligation, only to find that, like so many others before you, RyanAir doesn't give a S*** about their obligations. What you should do is file a claim against RyanAir in the Small Claims Court for the cost of the BA tickets you were obliged to purchase. They haven't a leg to stand on, and you'll have the pleasure of having a better service at RyanAir's expense. Quote
Norman Verona Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Similar thing happened when I was flying 3 builders over from Stanstead. The lounge departure boards showed "delayed" against the flight so they sat in the lounge boozing. After a while they thought to check only to find they were now too late to get on. I wouldn't have believed them if it wasn't for the fact that when I collected them from Nantes the next day there were lots of passengers complaining. Ryanairs response was that it wasn't their fault. I would have taken them to court as you say but it's not so easy from over here. Quote
Guest Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 RyanAir doesn't give a S*** about their obligations. Simple - don't fly with them again. Wish I had the time to pursue a small claims court procedure - but I don't. Like so many others before no doubt - you just swear a good deal and put it down to experience. Voting with me feet Quote
Norman Verona Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Edden, I wish I had the option to vote with my feet. Search as hard as I can there is no other direct flights from Nantes to any Northern airport. I can get BA to Gatwick but then I need to get to Sheffield from there. Believe me, if there was competition the RaynAir flights would be empty. Quote
Darrell O'Neill Posted April 24, 2008 Author Posted April 24, 2008 UPDATE. Just back from my travels, and yes the return trip cost 2p... Only other charge was a card booking fee for booking online. £8 per booking. therefore 4 of us went for £8.08... happy days!! You even get priority check -in so you get to grin at all the other passangers who payed full whack in the que as you pass them and board before them..... Quote
