a4gom Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Anyone use Azureus Vuse for downloading torrents? I needed to download a file last week and someone suggested best thing around was Azureus Vuse, I installed the program and downloaded the file no probs Since then I've been watching a few film trailers etc on it but get terrible download speeds, I've had a look in the stats and it shows its uploading at the same time I'm downloading which is obviously slowing it all down. Thing is there is nothing in the folder I have set up for my downloaded files so what is it uploading? Heeelp please. Quote

Surely I'm not the only one who's exploiting the Azureus Vuse hidden tunnel to copy-off all of Andy's private files? Quote
Norman Verona Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Just one pinching his files would be OK but two of us causes a problem. Quote
Leon B Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Often it shares the installation and update files. I'm pretty sure your uploads will not affect download speeds, but you can restrict what speed you upload. I dont like the new version of Azureus so stick with an older one with less gui and more configuration. Quote
BuGsBuNnY Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 A torrent is breaking a potential file up to smaller chunks. The good side of it is that you can download, and at the same time, you can start uploading the latest finished chunk. This aids speed as people are sharing their files. The more the merrier principle. Now on downloading and uploading. Allowing people to upload your files is good for the community but also good for you. By allowing people to upload at higher speeds will actually speed up your download (on controlled websites). If you completely close the upload window, your download will slow down. I would advise that you check your upload limit if you are on a restricted isp package. If not, 10kb/s is sufficient for you to enjoy quick enough downloads. Quote
a4gom Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 Thanks, Leon n Bugs, I'm only playing as I have the file i wanted now so don't really need the service any more but just wondered what was been shared. As you will have guessed I'm not IT expert so don't know what all the configuration setting mean. Was I right in assuming its only sharing the stuff in the nominated folder though? Pete n Norm, your welcome to my files lads, its on a laptop which only has Windows xp, firefox and autoroute on it, no personal files unless you're interested in my surfing history and travel plans. FW500 Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I used to use Azeurus too but have recently switched to utorrent. It maybe just me but I'm finding the speeds to be much improved. Quote
Leon B Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Andy, you can basically get anything using a torrent. All you need to do is open Azureus (or similar) then open Google and type in whatever it is youre looking for a torrent at the end ie John Lennon torrent, this will come up with loads of results, any one will do, it then passes the download onto Azureus. dombanks Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 utorrent is a much better program IMHO, azurus uses far too much system resources just to show you a fancy wizzy environment. It used to crash my modem after a few hours of use and while it was running doing anything worthwhile was out of the question. switched to the standalone utorrent and everything is sweet, ........ although i do notice a slow down of the connection sometimes when its running. also i found that azurus was worse on linksys hardware.... dont know why this is but it was just something i noticed. Yes mate I believe so and have seen quite a lot when searching but I would have to say that I would be quite uncomfortable with the legality of downloading some of the stuff Quote
