scruffythefirst Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 rebuilding the car after crashing it has got to be the worst. Quote
oioi Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 bolting the type9 gearbox mount down generally gets me cursing and swearing, as does topping up the gearbox oil (even with a hole in the side panel) Quote
Norman Verona Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Oioi, tack a bit of wire to two bolts pushed through the gearbox mounting plate next time you have it off (maybe I should reword that) Turns a half hour job into 30 seconds. Quote
Morbius Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 As far as worst job on a Westie - my vote is for the routing of the wires through the roll bar for a high level brake light! Not hard to do just b****y frustrating trying to get the wires to feed round the bar (I ended up having to use cotton first and then wire )Never doing that again! Not so for me. I pushed a stiff piece of wire up from the end where it goes on the body ( I chose the RHS for no particular reason except that it was easier in my garage). The only fiddly bit was hooking the end through the hole feeding the back of the Brake light itself. Gaffer tape the brake light wires to the 'mouse' wire, and Bob's my mother's brother (this last fact is always true for me, so in theory I should find nothing difficult). Of course I fitted the light before I fitted the Roll Bar: wouldn't find it quite so easy in situ. Worst job for me is fitting the throttle cable to the accelerator pedal after the scuttle is on: usually results in copious amounts of swearing on my part. That said, after fitting the Jenveys, I had a longer tail at the pedal end and left that tyrapped to the pedal to make life easier next time. Bob to the rescue again! Quote
cast iron Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Changing the type 9. On an Escort for example you can pull the engine forward and take it off the back of the engine, in a ruddy westfield there is that furkin cross member so the whole engine has to come out Quote
greeny Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Fitting a full cage and in particular fitting the side protection bars on a fully built car! A*** of a job! Quote
Rory's Dad Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 As far as worst job on a Westie - my vote is for the routing of the wires through the roll bar for a high level brake light! Not hard to do just b****y frustrating trying to get the wires to feed round the bar (I ended up having to use cotton first and then wire ) Never doing that again! I was expecting it to be really bad but it took two minutes using florists' wire as a leader. Maybe I was just lucky Rory's Dad Quote
